I too didn't see that coming but I sure enjoyed it. I don't think I'm usually a mean person - but after all the OTT whinging about the move of the game to the SCG I smiled when I thought about the atmosphere on the AFL bus on the way back to Homebush!

The Pies' criticism of the change in ground for tonight underscores what a bunch of pricks they are. It's a home game and we played it at our home ground. What gets me the most, is the fact Collingwood will play their next four games straight at the MCG.
On tonight's performance, wow. We completely dominated them in every area of the game. What I liked the most was the sustained pressure we applied. Basically beat them into submission. Whenever there was a loose ball, there were between 3-5 pairs of Swans hands reaching for it. When we had it, we moved it quickly.
Papley - wow. Keep that up please.
Heeney applied huge pressure but needs to learn patience in the forward fifty and use his fellow team members, not his boot.
We also have a serious issue with kicking (and I'm not just talking about shots on goal).
Outside that, superb effort ll round.Comment

Haha. I always leave a day in between wins and only watch a quarter a day. That way the win usually drags out to Thursday next week, just in time for the teams to be announced for the weekend match. Love that footy's back. The Swans were a revelation last night. A little Kirkesque with their manic pressure.Comment

The handballing in close and little tap ons to get an open was absolutely wondferful.
Remarkable to have 3 guys debut and all have excellent games. Mills is one game in to his career and by about 15 minutes in I was already calmed if the backline just got the ball to him to steady the ship a little- wonderfully composed and skilled for such a young player.I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

Agree with all comments - didn't see it coming; new players wonderful.
But Lloyd was a revelation last night - found space for release and then good kicking.Comment

Be careful what you wish for. Maguire is nothing if not spiteful, vengeful and influential. Given tonight's success with Papley and Hewett he'll probably try to have us barred from future Rookie drafts and retrospectively barred from the 2013 draft. And given that Dill-on is his bitch, I wouldn't be a bit surprised if his campaign was successful.
And... what was the consequence of the notorious "King Kong" comment? A equally notorious zero!Comment

I don't think we should change the team for next week; reward for effort. We were quick, fearless, got numbers to the ball and hunted in packs. The pressure (both perceived and real) undid Collingwood. I'm really impressed by the poise the youngsters played with and the licence to play across the park.
I can't think of anyone who went missing (a couple of Rampe kicks did, but I can't fault his attack). Ben and Ted should bide their time in the seconds.Comment

The word I think encapsulates everything in this match is 'Instinctive'. We have over the last three years had a tendency to draft footballers rather than pure athletes. Only one pure athlete comes to mind when I think of the last three drafts, Hiscox. The rest have been footballers. Papley, Towers, Hewett, Dawson, Leonardis, Davis, Robinson, Lloyd, Heeney, Mills, Rampe. even before that we drafted Parks, Hannas, Reid, Smithy. The side was full of footballers last night not athletes and it showed. The delivery was sensational at times. The ball movement was instinctive and therefore came off becuse if it stuffed up you had two other players playing back up. We hunted in packs and made them look ordinary.
some of the footy we played will go down as the most sensational ever seen in a first round and not since Adelaide's first match against premiers from the previous year, Hawks, has there been such an outstanding first round win. The win is important but what is more important is the way we went about it. I had no expectations for this year due to a regeneration. but the younger generation are proving me very wrong. I knew they all had huge talent but the way they proved it was emphatic. Luke Parker and Kieren Jack showed the way with young Lloydy & Mitch. Some of Lloydy's run and carry was brilliant. I think we are only just starting to see how good this kid is. Mitch kicked three goals wow. so dangerous at ground level same with Papley. When either Parks, Hewie or Mitch were resting and teaming with Papley Pies simply couldn't extract the ball. Add Heens and towers and they were stuffed. Deano might not get 30 disposals but what he did get he hurt them with and some of his dodging and skill work was sensational, Heens too.
I'm blown away by that performance, not as blown away as Collingwood though.Comment
