Very nice close to that third quarter. Rose has been very lively, but Tyrone starting to come into the action a bit more, and great to see O'Riordan kick what I assume was his first ever goal at competitive level. Dawson was a bit quiet in the second quarter but he woke up again in that third quarter.

I'd love to send a barber over to Giants HQ. There are an irritating number with those silly man buns!

Great fight back by the swans late in that quarter.

Murray looks very keen to kick a goal.

Gutsy performance by the Swans. Was looking dire mid way through the 3rd. What a come back.

          Steele dominant for Giants.

Rose, very good to watch. Very crafty all over the ground, rarely held.

          Newman looked composed and dependable.

Murray showed a few good things in his first game. Kicked a big goal.

Would feel very comfortable with Rose in the seniors. Great find by Beatson & Co.

We dropped a lot of marks, particularly in the 1st half, but the skill level improved from midway through the 3rd qtr.

Another solid performance from Harry Marsh. He has the composure of an AFL player and looks mentally ready for AFL footy. I'm happy we kept him on our list.

Some nice competitive effort by Nanka when the game was on the line.

O'Riordan looks promising for someone who hasn't played the game. He made some errors, but generally showed good skills and composure. He's a reasonable chance to make the transition.

We didn't play the stoppages with the usual midfielder, but rather used outside players like Towers, Dawson and Rose (late) for development purposes. It seemed the Giants dominated the clearances, but we looked a fitter team in the end, which says something positive about our development program.

You are having us on, O'Riordan best?? If he was we have another Kennelly on our hands to make up for the Irish failures since.

Ugg, can you please give us a realistic run down. Thinking Hewett might make way for someone next week, Rose maybe?

The NEAFL app has now got great stats and I saw that O'R had 20 disposals, 4 marks, 2 tackles and kicked a goal. Not bad for an AFL newbie.

Some great signs for our depth in the Twos

He's doing very well based on where he's come from but I don't think I'd have him best on ground. How Towers doesn't get amongst the six best players is probably the bigger issue for me.

Having said that the Giants best list didn't have Steele in it

Based on the tried and true handicap system - players not judged on absolute terms but relative to their stage of development.

Rose was clearly our best IMHO, but Towers was pretty good too. With Jack also dangerous around goals (and generally playing more to his strengths, rather than getting sucked into too many packs on the ground), that's three decent mid-sized options we have to come into the senior forward line if we encounter injuries amongst the current incumbents.

I thought Rose was clearly the best on ground. He did well in the centre bounces in the last quarter, and was relentless in the front of goals. I suppose he is 3rd in line after Papley and (now) McGlynn, but he was terrific all day.

Allir has an incredible leap, and his timing for spoils seemed to avoid penalties for arm chops. Particularly in the first quarter he kept the Swans in the game defending the bombs coming in to 2 tall forwards in Stewart and Tomlinson, both of whom are well experienced at senior level.

Derickx was, I thought, better than Nankervis on the day; the latter seems to have lost any leap at centre bounces, and looked flat footed and immobile.

I agree that Towers has that X factor and at the lower level has real impact. I didn't notice Jack most of the day except that he was the most 'interchanged" player in the last quarter - not sure whether he was injured or exhausted.

Blacktown is a nice venue to watch at, and 10.30 start suited me to arrive, and then to get on to the SCG in good time.
