Got to tell you Barry I was watching one of our games at the Aussie Bar in Kamala Beach, Phuket last season. It is run by an Aussie called Peter Crisp from Tassie who is a Geelong supporter. There was aguy sitting near me who was a Carlton supporter and Laids was playing a good game. Peter said to his mate, "and where did the Swans get him", The bloke bowed his head and said effing Carlton. He turned to me and said, "and Malthouse thought this bloke couldn't play. Gee we have got wrong for so long". He was clearly dismayed that we had turned a sows ear into a silk purse. He had no idea why Laids had not got a go. I said, and I said loudly, "and Geelong let him go". He is one solid defender.

I remember after the Coffs Camp in 2014, he was the one Horse mentioned as looking a good chance to step up. It has taken a couple of years but he is here and doesn't look out of place.
In 2015 he mentioned Nic Newman, so maybe he will break out in 2017 (if he doesn't get a chance this year).

I like Laids. A lot. He is opposite to Ramps (who also couldnt get a gig) and I don't think other clubs have quite worked out that he is a prime part of the backline, they still work on prior assessments. Nothing flash, but just right for the job.
