    2006 revisited

I am surprised a thread hasn't been started on this. I was driving to Sydney yesterday and there was a lot of talk about what came out on the Footy Show about the drug culture at West Coast. Seems every man and his dog knew, including the AFL and Worsfold. People were ringing up saying they lived in Perth and it was the worst kept secret. Apparently Richard Colless has come out and said the club is not interested in revisiting the story.

Amazingly Terry Wallace said they recruited Cousins on moral grounds, given that they knew about the story and thought that Richmond could help him.

Even if they were stripped of their premiership, which they won't be, it wouldn't be awarded to us anyway. They'd just leave it vacant for the year.

Macca was pretty eloquent in his response (to Neroli Meadows persistent questions ) that WCE had won the 06 flag fairly and they (Swans ) didn't wish to revisit it .
I guess there isn't really much point .

It's a sore point with me because I had mates from Perth who from as early as 2000 were saying the Cuz and the like were totally out of control.

And I really do believe that his superhuman endurance and amazing second half stats need to be viewed with extreme suspicion. Plus have a look at Cuz after the 2006 GF and try telling me he isn't off his chops.

Having said that it serves no purpose for us to be anything than gracious about this. The human cost in terms of what that culture did to the players (Cousins, Kerr, Mainwaring, Chick, Fletcher and Gardiner and they are just the ones we know about) and their poor families kind of makes us arguing the toss about the result seem quite childish, there's many things in life more important than footy.

But when I hear Nesbitt saying he'd trade the flag for the health of Cousins it does make my blood boil. That bloke knew exactly what was going on and at the time all he cared about was if they did the business on the weekend. All that talk about it being "a different era" is absolute bull too, it was under 10 years ago not the 1970's

Having said all that, the 2006 Flag must be one of the most tainted in the history of the game. Try telling a parochial sandgroper that though

I'm definitely still pretty bitter about it. It'd should have been our dynasty, only to be cheated out of it.

          Gotta move on though.

It's a title we can never really lay claim to, but I sure as hell hope those cheats end up with nothing to celebrate either. I hope it's an ongoing source of shame and embarrassment for them.
