Both. Comparatively fewer studies, however, consider just elite athletes (or specifically footballers) as the study populations would be relatively small.

It is also reported that the Australian population seems to have a relatively higher rate of ACL injury rate.

Hard to dislike your opposition with so many nice words! Here's Mason Cox:

Mason Cox on Twitter: "Feeling just sick at the moment after watching Alex Johnson come off. It was absolutely awesome standing next to him last week. What a man. Thoughts are with you and the fam."

Netball and AFL. Sports made for knee specialists.

He is an interesting character Mason Cox. Seems a genuinely good guy off the field, with a bit of a character - a nice change from the same old most players are these days in a very much sanitised footy world compared ot yesteryear.
"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."

Actually, no one specifically. However, going through the list I’m positive there would be at least one either senior or rookie listed player who is less likely to play a senior game than AJ if AJ recovered.

Perhaps have a look at our current list (senior or rookie) and tell me if there is a single player on it who you don’t think will ever earn a senior game before being delisted.

Here's the photo of AJ an Nic Newman that some have written about. It's a sad one, but expresses how we all feel. One for the RWO archives.

Sadly, this may be the end for AJ.
At what point does it become a losing battle and a pipe dream?

Good point. This plus our rock hard pitches (albeit less so at top level).

Nic Newman looks more upset than AJ.
AJ looks resigned to the fact. What character he has. If ever there was a poster boy for 'getting on with it', whatever the situation, he is it.
Of course we do not know for certain how it will affect him and he could be forgiven for having dark moments, but his main intent on Saturday seemed to be to comfort and encourage those around him.

Perhaps the silver lining to this tragedy is that AJ got to do a ‘Jason McCartney’ in being part of that wonderful win against Collingwood. Maybe his last full game of AFL; but a wonderful moment of courage, dedication and joy. A moment to remember.

I don’t know what AJ’s education and qualification background is, but is it possible that he could obtain an important future role in the club as a form of a professional
                            adviser to injuries players?

I'm with Teddy Roosevelt. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Alex is only 26, and players are a long time retired, it would be great to
see him get back on the park next year.

The last thing I want to see is any player given a role within the club due to empathy or goodwill.
