    Poor AJ.
Hands up who saw this coming?
It's not only football to these guys. It's their careers and their passion. AJ has effectively wasted the last six years of pain and hard work.

If there is something positive in this it is the fact that he got a full game in the seniors on the SCG as a swan song.

Yeah, there's a guy who genuinely empathises with others and isn't afraid to show his emotions. Must be a poof. Let's deride him. Much more manly to smash someone behind play.

        Wow.
That's a bit homophobic. No one mentioned "poof" - except for you.
        Please.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

No please....by taking the 'higher moral ground' because someone used 'a word' proves you are missing his point completely and he makes an extremely valid point. As I said before.....that's cold......and now, you're being silly and are in no position to pontificate to others about 'a word'! In this day and age of the #MeToo movement, you should be happy a male (Newman) is showing empathy and emotional honesty.....

Now you're just being ridiculous and inventing crap.

Just to remind you of what Annie actually said; "Can't understand why Newman is crying! It's devastating mate, but it's only football".

Please point out the part where she is deriding him or labelling him a poof?

Annie is implying that Newman is being less of a man......it's misguided and yes, she is deriding him for it.....did you miss that? Don't shoot the messenger just because he used a 'bad word'.....it doesn't lessen the relevance of the point he is making. People who are in the wrong should not hide behind 'outrage'.....now that 's what is weak. Maybe you and Annie should move into politics.....they they pull that one all the time to avoid scrutiny.

Newman knows how hard AJ has worked to return. A lot of pain, mental and physical, 6 years of injuries and setbacks. Finally gets back into the team, and he does his good knee after 5 quarters. Football is a massive part of these guys lives, I completely understand the emotion he showed for his mate. Hell, I would have been the same.

mmm..... might be time for people to go off and make a cup of coffee or something. Seems pretty obvious Newman
was just feeling sad for his mate. That's OK isn't it? Some people get teary, some don't, there's no right or wrong in it....

Exactly - I couldn't say it better myself, so won't try to!

                      QUOTE: "But it's only football".
It may be only football to us, but to the players it is such a large part of their young lives (18-30 years of age if they are lucky)

At least he has a premiership to show for all his injuries. He could have been a first year player showing that he has real potential to be a 10 year player only to get injured and not play in the Grand Final. Must have been looked after by the Swans as other employment was not an attraction. Mind you the journey was inspiring for the club and players. Now talking about animal parts to strengthen the injury ?

Perhaps time to move on , like plenty of park players have had to and gain other employment.

I don't agree with what Annie said about Newman but she was in no way referring to him as that word (sorry I refuse to use that word).

Anyway as others have said these players have seen what AJ has gone through for 6 years. They experienced the elation of his comeback last week and then experienced this unfair setback. Newman is obviously very close to AJ and all the emotion was released at the end of the game. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

I think Annie was saying that there was no reason to be THAT emotional by anyone (possibly except family or AJ himself)
A debatable point, but in the end just her opinion and that's what people express here.

These days you simply can't use words that are offensive to some in any way.
Surely you aren't surprised that people are calling you out for what is now considered passive homophobia?
The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.

+1. People look for any opportunity to be offended and to attack someone these days, even if they have to invent the offence. So much anger and hatred. Imagine how they treat supporters of other clubs.

I've had a couple of mates over the years who played AFL, only to have their careers cut short due to injury. One of them was with Collingwood and the club saw him as being a future 200+ midfielder for them. He was about 20 at the time. These things happen sometimes.
