“The future of Alex Johnson is still up in the air, but he's expected to want to play on despite yet another knee reconstruction.”

Whilst we know that he wants to play on... but I'm beginning to think that he's knees are just not up for the job and I think it's time we freed up the salary space.
Can they keep him on his compo and he can maybe do light duties around the club, getting his name off the salaried list?
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Surely he is on absolute minimal wage anyway as a rookie?

He may be on slightly above that, but I agree his impact is likely more in taking a roster spot than any salary cap hit.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

There was talk about giving him a coaching role next year. And if he makes it back I guess putting him back on the list.

That would be the way to go. Can rookie list him again for 2020 if it looks like his knee reco has gone well.

I think he did a lot of work with Rhys Shaw and the NEAFL team. We could do worse.

Sounds like he is still keen to try and play at the highest level again. I just can't see anyone else taking a chance on him - perhaps if he spends next season recovering, then plays in the second tier somewhere, someone might throw him a chance after that.

Very sad day, but understandable. Seems he still thinks he can make it back on the park, whereas the club has decided they need to move on - and that he wasn't interested in an off the field option.

Things are definitely changing at the Swans, that is for sure.

This makes me sad. I wonder if he will follow Rhys down to North?

I sense a new ruthlessness at the Swans this year.

I certainly sense a clearing of the decks attitude - looking for a new start. I wouldn't call any of what is going 'deadwood', but it certainly feels like the club are takings some opportunities to take a new direction.

OMG... all you people who weren't expecting this, open your eyes!!
I love AJ, but how long do want to carry someone as injured as he is?
We've gotten rid of injured players in the past after one season.
We've done all we can and we need to move on.
AJ, I wish you the best and hope that your body recovers fully.
