AA great game and Naismith also
Unleashing those two guys has been wonderful for the team
Disappointed to loose but that Hawks team is a bunch of elite kickers of the ball
Wow even the 70m volley with a 1min to go Sam Mitchell straight to his forwards ??? I mean yes wrong option by Towers but next moment just freakish by Mitchell

I was angry with the 50ms, but if it's there, it's there, regardless of how harsh. At least we have it hammered into our brains now and not (I hope!) in the Finals.
The Hawks are extremely intense without the ball, and spread to oodles of space with it. We are all familiar with the way they play but we are not chasing hard enough, allowing too much space. When we put pressure on we can be pretty good too, but we must learn how to kick more accurately, especially at goal, when under pressure.
I'll be interested to see the stats. I thought Sinclair played much better, Naismith is continuing well, Papley came good, Parker, Hanners, Kennedy were all good; I'd like to know how many tackles our Mitchell laid and how many possessions their Mitchell had.
And who was the player, I think in Q4, who jumped on Buddy while he was stretched out on the ground, I think after an attempted tackle?
Very frustrating and disappointing, but if we can keep going until Tippo returns, and probably play Laidler for Jones, we're still well in the running.Last edited by dimelb; 14 July 2016, 10:20 PM.He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. He's the perfect example of an 'almost footballer'. For every good moment tonight he did something utterly stupid to go with it. If it was me he'd be on the trade table at the end of the year - never going to make it when he doesn't have the decision making footy brain."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

I thought Hanners was incredibly wasteful all game. His finishing is D grade, whether it is his field kicking or around goal. Gets a heap of the footy but oh so wasteful.Comment

Great game of Aussie Rules - disappointed we lost - there's a future with our young brigade.
To those who will blame umpiring - the 2 players who gave away blatant 50 metre goals are more to blame.
Again our leadership against the Hawks has to be questioned.
Also, Hannebery - get on with the game, rather than being the best man on the "ground".Comment

Is there anybody who can tell me about the Tom V Sam Mitchell contest that was supposed to happen tonight.. I think Sam had way too much influence once again.Comment

I do agree there is a future for our young brigade and that we are definitely coming - but I fear so badly we are going to reflect on 2016 as the year that got away. Win 2 of the 4 games we have lost by 10 or less (3 by less than a kick) and we'd be sitting as pretty as the Hawks are, with a top 2 spot basically sewn up. We are right in the mire now just to make top 4 - have to win every game home from here to guarantee it you feel (can probably drop 1 more), and could even do that and still miss top 2 from here."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

Would have preferred Rose to McGlynn tonight.
He's on his final chances I'd say.
The future looks bright, especially for Allir tonight
Paps is gonna be up and down a bit as he develops - was great that he didn't let his stuff ups early ruin his game
Sinclair was average again for me, would have preferred Nankervis.
McVeigh up and down
Umpiring was frustrating - I'm pretty confused as to what needs to happen to be judged holding the ball after that game. Seems you can have prior, be tackled, and the ball spill free and it's all ok.The difference between insanity and genius is measured only in success.Comment

It is a worrying pattern that we're good enough to lead late in these games, but can't hold our nerve.
Unfortunately it is almost certain to cost us terribly - will be the difference between a home QF and possibly Hawthorn at the MCG, or even worse missing the double chance.
It might also be handy to find someone else to be our loose in defence, other than the only forward who actually looked somewhat dangerous.
Unfortunately that's symptomatic of our approach - try and save a game than win it. Given we're so poor at it anyway, it's probably worth rethinking how we go about it next time.Comment
