I too have dismayed at his late game mistakes, but where were the leaders. He was good against Freo. He deserves his place in the side. He works hard and his average stats have improved big time.

He has his @@@@ scared OH MY GOD I'VE GOT THE BALL what the @@@ do I do now moments but he does seem to get the ball a lot! So I reckon in a year or so once he gets used to it and stops panicking he'll be quality.

Or he's just the panicky type and it will never change.

Yes he is like a Catholic outside the chemist shop. Got The pill but doesn't know what to do with it. But only at the end of the game. Otherwise ok.

Wasn't it Towers who sold a dummy stabbed it to Buddy , goal .
A lot of Sydney players are not smart enough to do this , they get run down (HTB) when this quick lateral movement solves the problem .
Some are very good at it , especially Macca, Buddy, Mitchell, Josh , Jack .

But HP, many refer to him as @@@@@@. He was good on the weekend.

"Never to play again" and other nice phrases were thrown around a couple of weeks ago, blaming him for losses etc.

I also note that apparently Mc H a c k has been banned. That's pretty silly. I don't think it has been used in a descriptive way of McVeigh for years. It's only ever used in discussion , as I did.
It was probably added years ago and has never been removed.
                No big deal.

It is obvious we play a style of football that requires a strong bodied midfield rotation to win that footy

We dont play a chip and pass uncontested style

But for our style to win we also need some fast outside players to negate the run of other top teams who have a stack of fast players ie a GWS

Who should we trade in for towers for his outside role ?

Can we make this happen cost effectively ?

He has good pace, good evasive skills and is hard to tackle. He just needs to improve on his disposal and defense (ie - tackling). I see him as a needed part of our group. If we could get Reid out there for any length of time that might change.

I've warmed to Towers but with one proviso...if scores are within 10 points at the 20 min mark of the last quarter, he is to immediately head to the bench where he stays put until the final siren and/or we kick more than 4 goals ahead, then he may re enter the field.

I am happy to give JackII run before the finals, but it would probably be in the place of Papley, not really Towers.
Dean is finally getting a decent run without worrying about keeping his spot and it seems to be working for him.

I don't know if it's just coincidence, but it seems to me that his improvement may have come because his role has changed to a more offensive player. He started the year as someone we wanted to apply forward pressure, but now he's running up and down the field trying to get the ball and not worrying too much about tackling the opposition. I think this role suits his strengths more and he's getting more involved in our scoring. He looks a happier and more relaxed player of late.

His role yesterday seemed to be the link up b/w defence and the fwds. He seemed to be the lead up player and did it well against very poor opposition

I'd be happy for him to stay. If the errors and the 'deer in the headlights' stuff decreases with experience and confidence gained in the top level, he could be an exciting, creative player for years.

He has some very good games, and then some games where he makes a couple of really woeful decisions that we all jump on (I'm guilty of this). So he doesn't look like he is going to give us five years of top 10/top 15 playing, but he is definitely a very useful player and realistically, what would we really get out of trading him? A mid to late 2nd round pick when we don't really need the points next year for an academy player, and we have plenty of young talent coming through already that will be supplemented without us doing anything else with our normal late 1st and 2nd round picks.

Keep him, as RWOers will just find another whipping boy when he is gone, like Laidler or Cunningham.
