Changes for Round 23 v Richmond

I think you have to put in context where Richards is at.
As recently as Rd 17 we were preferring his brother as a forward, and since coming in he's played against Carlton, Fremantle, Port Adelaide, St Kilda and North. He'll presumably do OK against Richmond this week.
As a forward he's more of an athletic, leading type than a contested mark, bring the ball to ground player. I'd prefer Towers given his flexibility, and I don't think we need another tall up forward with Franklin, Tippett and then Heeney and Rohan who are better overhead than Richards anyway.
I have nothing against him, if he plays I hope he does well - but personally I haven't seen anything to show he'll be able to be a major contributor in finals.Comment

I really like what X brings, really mobile for a tall player but still a good mark will get better in years to come. Surprised by Towers, maybe he has told the club he'll be leaving at years end?

I am not overly surprised by the Towers omission. The team didn't play that well last week, and were lucky that North couldn't convert their chances. I thought their work with the ball was fine but their work without the ball (which is probably the Swans' most significant "weapon" was down on previous weeks and certainly at a lower level than will be required to contend in finals. Towers wasn't the only culprit, but some of his tackling efforts were quite ordinary, and I suspect he's been the one singled out to demonstrate the level of effort required from week to week.
My guess is that he will still play this weekend. If there's any doubt over Buddy I reckon he'll be left out.Comment

Whilst it's fashionable to constantly suggest new youth, I still firmly believe that the writing off of McGlynn is premature and he will play a part in September.
We have some fantastic young players in the team, having a mix of old heads like McGlynn is exactly what we need to compliment them.Comment

I thought it be Benny out and KJ in - like many on here. I didn't know Mills had an injury. I though the injury cloud was over Buddy.
I didn't think Dean would get dropped but maybe it's not that surprising. He does fall down in pressure games and he certainly got kicked a lot after our loss to Richmond earlier this year. As others have said his tackling is not up to scratch for finals footy. This game is different to the last round in 2014 against Richmond. If we lose this game we drop down the ladder and would miss a home qualifying final. We really want to win this game.Comment

You've also got to consider how much better our forward structure is with XR in the side. He commands the 2nd or 3rd tall defender and drags them away from Buddy. With Tippett now back in the forward line our ability to stretch opposition defence should be the best it's been all season, and XR is a big reason behind that.

I've been a fan over the years but it'd be nice if he found some of the footy. He had a very poor finals series last year too. I get the feeling the club is giving him every chance to play a part but I reckon he'd have to play pretty well this week to be there in week 1.
I'd love Mcglynn to prove the doubters wrong - but I just can't see it happening. I'd love nothing more than to see him with a Premiership medallion around his neck after the season is over, but on what he has shown this year, I don't think he is in our best 22."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

Why are you so confident that McGlynn gives us a greater chance of winning the Premiership?Bloods
