Overall it seems that we have really invested in our front half. Adding to Dawson and Murray last year, we have taken Florent, Hayward, Fisher, Pink and Edwards who all play mostly in the front half. BJ, Rose and Towers are on notice! If the new blood overtake them, they'll be out the door.

Maybe next year for Tony Olango. A bit disappointed. It must have been a tossup between Tony and Toby, another one of my favourites, has both talent and whipping boy qualities. Toby Pink can play both forward and in the ruck as well. Not a bad late selection.

We went for some serious talent instead of taking long shots, like Olango and Tye Bedford. We also surprisingly passed on Jake Brown. Sam Fisher is probably the better player.

Shaun Edwards and Toby Pink were both named in earlier posts as possible selections. I think we did very well. All are seriously good players to get chosen in the rookie draft.

I'm going through the picked players and still can't believe that Jonty Scharenberg, Sam Walker and Bailey Morrish were not taken. Hard to figure. It's in the rookie draft where I think the recruiters really earn their money and we've done very well with these late picks.

Too lazy to search- has Xavier landed at a club?
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline

Still in shock about the non-selection of X. There must be a doubt about his motivation to do what it takes to make the grade given hie GF experience and athletic prowess. His Manager really stuffed this one up!

My feeling with our selections in both the ND and the RD is that these guys will all take time to develop. It's unlikely any will have much impact in their first season with us given their immature bodies and rawness. I hope that at least one of them proves me wrong.

When X said he didn't really care of he played AFL again he basically scared every club off. Dont know why he bothered nominating.

What was wrong in picking at least 1 or maybe 2 from the Academy to show there is a pathway at least. Do we want to pick champs only

Edwards will be the first ex-Giant to play for the Swans. There will be a total of 31 ex-Giants plying their trade in the AFL next year. Carlton alone has 9 of them while Geelong and Gold Coast are the only 2 clubs not to have one.

We don't really need any of our draftees to play senior footy next season. But there are several who are capable of doing so. Edwards has played AFL for several years, so he's obviously one. Robbie Fox is 22 yo and has been playing senior footy in the VFL. Maibaum has a mature body and could handle senior footy. Cameron is 21 and also has played senior footy in the WAFL. Ollie Florent looks a bit thin, but I wouldn't be surprised if he got a few games next year. It will hard enough for some of our players with senior experience like Towers, Cunningham, Laidler and Marsh to crack the senior squad this year, so there was no need to draft players who could come in next year, in fact it's preferable not to, as it allows those waiting in the queue, like Newman and Foote, to be given opportunities.

I thought Jake Brown was talented enough to be given a shot. It's actually not fair to draft someone like Hebron, who is a good enough NEAFL player, but doesn't have a realistic chance of making it to AFL level. It's better for these guys to move on and find a different career. There were a fair number of impressive players that missed out on the draft this year, that were easily better than any of our academy players.
