I'm confused about why Drew Petrie wasn't selected via the Pre-Season Draft. But I've had a think about it and this is what I've come up with:
* his salary will not be counted towards the salary cap if he's a rookie and not on the senior list (is that right, can someone please confirm?).Comment

i think one of the great things with the Ronky Tonk signing is that if Paps was injured in 2017 we have another genuine hard little nut up front
It showed in 2016 how much we needed that style of player in our 22"be tough, only when it gets tough"

Harry Cunningham? It has always grieved me that others have enjoyed the frenzy but it's not as if they've tended to turn into superstars at their new homes.Comment

Very pleased with our two drafts, some potentially very good players added to what is already a strong list.
Great to hear that all of them were excited to be joining the Swans, a couple of them heading up to Sydney as soon as their names were called - classic stuff!
Notice that Ronke was the topped ranked player available today in Knightmare's Power Rankings as posted on ESPN and BF.Comment

when you have players who can play a role and or genuinely are on the way up it tends to put pressure on the top 22ish players to maintain very high standards
we saw this with HC this year even though he really didn't have much competition as an outside player on the Swans 2016 list
but he was over taken by emerging players
and AA over took Ted
etc
I think Edwards, Ronke and Fox will apply pressure but further up the list of sharp toothed talent will be Robbo, Foote, Rose, Marsh, Florent, Sinclair, Maibaum, Newman etc biting at the heels of the top 22"be tough, only when it gets tough"

does anyone else think we NOW actually have a deeper list then 2016 ?
or do the losses of Mitchell, Nanko, Ted, McGlynn outweigh ?

there are some players that will feel the heat to perform in 2017 though
Cunningham
Towers
Laids
Macca
Murray
Brandon
Marshy
Dawson

Shaun Edwards has lots of natural ability, but has lacked the application .He has been training with a personal trainer since the Swans expressed an interest which suggests he realizes that this is his last chance.Hopefully Rhys Shaw and the other development coaches can get the best out of Shaun because he could be an exciting addition to our outside run.Comment

Here are the list changes side by side. I think we really improved.
Out ------------------- In
Mitchell -------------- Florent
Nankervis ----------- Cameron
Ted ------------------ Maibaum
Xav ------------------ Hayward
Derickx ------------- Ronke
Davis ---------------- Fox
Hiscox --------------- Edwards
Mcglynn ------------- Fisher
Galloway ------------ Pink
It's a much stronger list than last year, and we did quite well last year. Not to forget that we will get back Reid, Talia and AJ who were all out injured. Only Mitchell made a significant contribution and we got Florent, effectively, as a result of that trade. The increase in pace in the new side is considerable.
We are building nicely to stay competitive in a period where GWS and GC are looking formidable with the quality of their lists.Comment
