But I also think the development side and growing the player pool to accommodate a larger comp is the main reason.
I'd question how much loyalty a kid from Albury will have to GWS. I have no doubt a kid from Campbelltown or Penrith that has come through their academy would have huge loyalty.
It is in GWS's interest to develop and get Sydney kids on their list asap but right now there is no incentive to do so if they can just mine a ready made football district.
We can debate this all day long but I think there is no way the GWS zone won't be addressed by the AFL, I just hope the system as a whole is not destroyed in a knee-jerk reaction. If idiots like Eddie had their way the whole thing would be abolished entirelyComment

Actually the Tubechop didn't work out my phone, but worked on my laptop: who knows why? Anyway, it's a bit hard to tell exactly what happened? Certainly Finlayson's arm was raised, so it's a reasonable bet that that was what did the damage, but from that angle, it's quite unclear how Reid go hurt as well?

Apparently, Jones is reasonably okay. He was sitting up in the rooms and was aware of his surroundings. He will be monitored during the week, to assess his chances of playing.Comment

But at the same time GWS also needs to stop being so bloody entitled whilst they do stuff all developing the game in Western Sydney which surely was part of their core mandate. OK, I know it was all about TV money but surely they should be able to think about developing one single kid from their Sydney zone that can make the U16 extended squad. Is one player out of 40 in the biggest and fastest growing urban area of Australia too much to expect?
But we have made some subtle comments in the press that indicate we think GWS are taking the piss a bit and that they should honour the spirit of the Academy system and not just the letter of the law. The example I can recall was young Marshall who had been back from a couple of years playing cricket in England and within 5 minutes GWS were trying to claim him. Kinnear Beatson, being the legend he is, made the comment that Academy clubs should be prepared to show they had actively contributed to the players development in a not too thinly veiled dig at GWS.
Muppet Mattthews from GWS got all precious about it but who really cares what that idiot thinks after his years at the NSWACTFL.Comment

Anyone not Swans is the enemy ... some are more enemy than others (yes GWS, I'm looking at you - Carlton you're no better since the Bloodbath & for stealing players from us for years & trying to get us kicked out to play all your "away games" in Sydney in our place).
So no Barry, with respect, it's the Swans and only the Swans for me.Comment

It seems like the Football gods are against us. Jones gets knocked out, Mills does an hamstring, Tippett is concussed by a sling tackle and Teddy Richards. (Mr RELIABLE), drops a mark in the goal square allowing the Giants to kick the winning goal and win the NEAFL flag. I hope next week our luck is better!Comment

@dejavu44, ugg - Tubechop still uses Adobe Flash technology, whilst YouTube can serve up video in HTML5 as well if Flash isn't available. Flash has a lot of security issues and so is not supported on a lot if Android.
