I'm not asking if it's something you would have said or if it's a mature thing to say. I'm asking if you think he should have been sanctioned for saying he slept with someone's mum.

Whilst we view the AFL as entertainment and like the physicality of the game, the players on the field are at their place of employment and working as professionals.
It's not about political correctness or toughening up. We don't want the univited personalised trash talk in society, we don't want our kids saying that crap to other players in junior leagues, so stamp it out in the senior leagues.Comment

Yes.

The comments about Cornes daughter is clearly different to me as its been targeted to his personal situation but to me, saying you slept with my missus, mum etc is no different from chewy on your boot.
I'm sure the Minson one was presented in a sanitised way but I was more curious if people thought that should be a punishable. I don't think he said that on the way to lodge a Mensa application but personally it's too nanny state for my liking.

was more in reference to kilroys response than yours but would suggest taking it down a notch on the condescension if you want to discuss rather than lecture.
I was genuinely curious to see what your opinion would be. I see it differently but that doesn't mean you're wrong either. He ate more cheese, than time allowedComment

As someone who has battled the black dog for around 40 years and to some extent still do can I offer an opinion?
I want to say straight up that the Mumford comment made me grin. Did I find it offensive ? Not really, could I see how others might have taken offence ? Yes however the number of people who have chosen to be offended on Lances behalf is staggering. A key component in overcoming mental illness is accepting that you need help. Once that has happened the next stage is acceptance of the issue and facing this head on. Lance did this and bravely made a public statement about the issue.
By doing so he removed any power that others may have , or perceived that they had in using this against him.
Mental illness takes on many forms and it has been stated previously in this post that just knowing the feelings of one person with a mental illness doesn't mean that their feelings about the issue apply to 99.999999 % of sufferers who would be offended . To that I say check your statistics as I believe they are flawed. Try asking someone who does have a mental illness if they found it funny and let their response to that guide the extent of your outrage on their behalf. It is my experience that quite often people with a mental illness are some of the funniest people you will ever meet. I know I am ????Comment

To me, he looked like he found the comment in poor form and didn't find it as amusing as you, hence it was offensive...Driver of the Dan Hannebery bandwagon....all aboard. 4th April 09Comment

Then there is a classic sledge: Michael Voss calls out to brother Brett,"My father slept with your mother!" Brett got a behind. He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

Lance took it personally from his reaction and thats good enough for me to condone what Dumbford said.Comment
