To challenge for the Flag in 2017....

Following on from my nearly but not quite good enough prediction in 2016 I suggest we need the following to occur for us to be at the pointy end again next season

    * A similar output from Buddy, we still rely on him to a huge degree
    * Naismith to establish himself as a genuine number quality 1 ruckman
    * Aliir Aliir to continue his development and be an automatic KPD selection (i.e.no second year blues)
    * Mills to seamlessly slot in to be midfield, aided by Heeney getting more midfield time
    * Florent to become a regular by the second half of the season
    * 10-15 % improvement out of Jones, Hewett and Papley
    * A couple of surprise packets - there were plenty last year but my prediction for 2017 is that we'll get a couple from Hayward, Edwards, Dawson or Foote

Feeling very positive after our draft haul. I don't feel we are as reliant on Tippo having a big year as we were this year (and he was vey good until injured) but clearly a good year from him would also be a bonus. And it goes without saying our A Grade midfield need to lead the way

    * Sam Reid to play regularly I think he's really important

If Reid and Tippett stay injury free, we're in a good spot.

Agreed with all of the above.

Maybe start Jones running thru the middle as a wing type as well

          Good OP.

Rohan to lift into further consistency.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

The only thing you can rely on from Tippett is injury, inconsistency, and his big wage. He will cost us again this year. IMO.

A plan to manage the performance of umpires including:

              - Developing closer relationships
              - Promoting umpires from outside Victoria
              - Use of the media to make sure umpires are accountable on game day. For example leading up to the grand final the media should have been red hot on Footscrays throwing of the ball and going in low. If they had been and Footscray was penalised when is should have been I believe the Swans would have been premiers.

All key players stay on the park and no injuries coming into and during finals. Parker to play a good game at the G.

Just a good run with injuries. We have the cattle, we just need them on the park.
We could inject Reid, AJ, Allir, and a few others into that grand final side.

I'm with you but the media and the AFL all wanted the result they got.

I will be interested in watching Lloyd next season. He had a very good year, as demonstrated in his B&F placing.

Mostly this year he approached the Malceski role as a ball distributor from the defensive end; but did it in a different way.

He did it by 'gut running' to get into positions to receive a handball or kick, and then advance the ball.

Hopefully AA defensive presence will allow Rampe more freedom to exploit his kicking, and Jones will play more as a running line breaker. If Lloyd can continue his role, then there will be more opportunities to move the ball quickly; and exploit Buddy's speed and agility.

Not so sure. I can cop a couple of close H&A losses?we dropped a couple last season and still finished at the top of the ladder?as long as we can rack up percentage when we should against the weaker teams.
I'm more concerned about putting a fit team on the field. Over a third of our mob were hobbled or underdone at the GF: Bud, Tip, Naismith, Rohan, McVeigh, Parker, Kennedy, Mills were all struggling, and I'm buXXXXed if I'm going to turn up to a third GF in four years if the same thing happens next year.
And I don't get the Tippett hating that's going on. He was going berserk in the first half the season. He's evidently hit all the KPIs for a contract extension and is a dude.
