In a way Dermie and Towers are similar - just when you're ready to completely give up on them they go and say something (Dermie) or do something (Towers) that give you the false hope that they ain't really that bad after all...

Why did we put Cunningham on such a long contract?

Surely Brandon Jack would add more by actually putting pressure on the opposition

Because when Cunningham gets the ball (not enough, but he does get it), he's a pretty good kick. He usually finds a team mate, often in the forward 50. Jack struggles to hit the side of a barn, most of the time.

          Re HC

I think the answer lies in between depth and salary cap a one of the major reasons for Cunningham to stay on

We don't have many outside players like him and he can do a job until others push ahead

Re Derm.... generally he only comments on indvs

I rarely here him talk about team strategy / tactics

            From Longmire's mouth:

            KJ expected to play
            Aliir "touch and go"
Naismith or Sinclair to partner Tippett in the ruck

Shaun Edwards upgraded from the rookie list to replace Rohan.

Nothing on Melican (yet) which suggests he won't play.

Strange. I was disappointed that Edwards didn't get more of a go in the JLC series, but clearly they like what they've seen in the two NEAFL practice games that he's played. And maybe they've now made up their mind to play AA on Saturday. Melican is the obvious alternative, but they wouldn't announce rookie upgrades piecemeal. I guess Laidler could play in place of AA but he lacks the height and pace of Melican (albeit that he makes up for this in experience). Port have quite a tall forward line, with Eddy, Dixon, Ryder drifting down there, and even Westhoff likely to go forward at some point.

                  Fascinating! Edwards elevated - sydneyswans.com.au

Looks like Edwards is a good chance of being selected and I guess the non-elevation of Melican suggests that (a) AA is going to be selected; and (b) AA and Melican aren't going to be selected together - as you said, ugg.

and, it suggests Towers is now behind Edwards for Rd. 1 selection

Not necessarily. Edwards needs to be elevated even if he's just to be named as emergency.

I don't see why you can't have both in the team.

                          I'm confused.

Edwards has been upgraded (per ugg).
Edwards needs to be elevated (per Liz).

Edwards has been elevated off the rookie list but this does not mean that he is necessarily in the final 22. As liz points out, even if he was just an emergency he would still need to be elevated.

Having said all that I do recall from last year Foote being elevated on the Wed or Thursday but not being named in the 22 or the emergencies on Thurs night.

It's certainly a positive for edwards

                                Thanks ugg.

Now I get it - Edwards has been elevated off the rookie list, but still needs to be elevated into this week's team.
