    Sean Dempster

I note that Sean Dempster has retired today with immediate effect concerned that another head knock with concussion might have lasting consequences. Dempster was one of my favourite players when he was a Swan and I was very disappointed when he was shown the door. His subsequent achievements at the Saints have shown that it was the wrong decision with All Australian selection and appearances in further Grand Finals. I would like to wish Sean all the best in his retirement.

Sad to see him leave the Swans and sad that injury has curtailed his career, albeit by a season.

Was a very good player who was underrated IMO. Wish him the best in retirement from playing.

5 times grand finalist. Great effort from a favourite father son selection, and a wonderful guy. Hope he will consider himself a Swan

I think there's more to this. Earlier in the week it was stated he was on leave due to personal issues, hope he is alright

He can be proud of his CV, and he's perfectly right to put his health first. Go well, Sean.

He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

Even earlier though, it was stated that he was consulting with medical people re: his concussion issues in light of not playing any pre-season games and not being selected in round 1, so hopefully it's all just precautionary and he's fine and wants to stay that way. I think that was the personal issue.

One of the most underrated players in the comp. will never forget him turning Cousins into a turnstile in the GF.

The Swans usually do good trade business, but Dempter and Snieder to St Kilda for a 2nd round pick at the end of 2007 was not good business. Both those guys ended up having good long careers at St Kilda.

Well done to Sean, outstanding career really. Good player at the Swans, great player at the Saints. 5 GFs, not many have done better.

Wouldn't have picked him as the last Swans 05 rep - didn't we have a thread on that back in ancient history?

Salary cap problems. There were others who could play Dempster's position and Schieder didn't invest in the Leading Teams philosophy
