I have met Gaz a few times at the training camp here is Coffs and he is the nicest footballer I have ever met. Always has plenty of times for the kids and fans. I reckon that is why many RWOer's have "unabashed and unwarranted love for Gary" and really just want him to reach his potential. [/bromance]

Yes, even though I think that Towers has problems with choosing the right options, I don't think he should be dropped, after he just turned in one of his better performances. Especially if his main problem is an up and down level of confidence.
Though I would like to see the ginger ninja back in: as he gives us more pace, can harass opposition runners well and when he gets hold of the ball, he can create havoc (usually for the opposition).
To me, the one most likely to make way is Florent. While he is obviously talented, he hasn't quite put it together yet and it will probably do him good to dominate a few NEAFL games.Comment

Agree but I do think Florent has been given a very simplistic pressure role
He hasn't Been given a role to roam in the forwards nor a role to lead
Hence this makes his "run with" type role to prevent rebound fairly boring to watch"be tough, only when it gets tough"

The problem with Gaz is that it's taken 6 quarters of football this season for him to accumulate those 10 possessions and he's had zero impact. He should have been bought back through the NEAFL in the first instance to gain some fitness and see a bit more of the ball for his own good, and I maintain he should be coming back through the NEAFL this week.
As for Towers, I would have thought his 20 possessions last week did impact the gameComment

I would have thought Gaz would be switching for Florent, not Towers especially after last week.
We've had so many seniors out I think we've had to rush some back in to get to a critical mass but from here on they should be brought back via the seconds as normal. He ate more cheese, than time allowedComment

He missed one game. It's not like McV who hadn't played in 7 months. Whether he needs to find form in the NEAFL is another matter.
Florent out for Gaz makes sense to meComment

I met Plugger a few times. I found him aggressive, moody and insolent towards fans. Apart from the personal hurt, I didn't care. What he provided on the field was gold. Genuine treasure. It doesn't matter how 'nice' Gary Rohan is. He gave us nothing in a GF and very little since. Ditto for 'nice' guy, Kurt Tippett. They should be earning their keep no matter how pleasant they may be.I have met Gaz a few times at the training camp here is Coffs and he is the nicest footballer I have ever met. Actually he didn't play in the pre-season then missed the first 4 games before being bought back in. Hasn't done him or the team any favoursComment

No way Towers should be dropped. He racked up the stats and his leadership was immeasurable. I think there is a consensus that Newman is in better form than Florent and can offer more. The problem is that they play at opposite ends of the ground and dropping Florent does not create room for Newman in the backline. We could play Newman forward but, in that case, (a) I'm not sure that he would offer more than Florent; and (b) would that be good for his development and possible future career in our backline? All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)

Agree they shouldn't play Newman up forward. There would be some rejigging of players required. Gaz needs to play between the 50's and apply pressure both ways
His KPI's should be 8 tackles, 10 Kicks & 5 BouncesComment

One player who hasn't been mentioned much lately is Hewitt. I'm not sure he's offering much lately and I'd prefer him being dropped than Towers. For me, the changes would be:
In: Tippett, Rohan, Newman
Out: Sinclair, Florent, Hewitt
This would allow Newman to play off the half giving Lloyd and Jones more minutes in midfield.Comment

Newman can play through the mids and did for a considerable time in the reserves last week. He is a mature age recruit so has a mature body. His disposal, while it was the worst I've seen from him last week, is still better than about 50% of the Senior team. Florent was almost non existent last week though I don't think the role Horse has him playing is suited to him.I think there is a consensus that Newman is in better form than Florent and can offer more. It is interesting that people who have never watched a reserves game at all ask for this player or that to come in (not talking about you Bloodspirit but there are people here & on Big Footy). If people want to know what happened in the reserves so they can have an informed opinion, as to who deserves to be elevated or brought into the seniors, then watch the NEAFL or NEAFL replays. Research is always better than speculation. That is the trouble with our media, they speculate and get things wrong.
I think there are several players knocking on the door; Newman, Dawson, Murray (Rookie), Cameron, Maibaum & Aliir. Dawson could play a similar role to Ollie if that is what you want. He is mobile, takes a pretty good mark and kicks pretty well. He could also play mids as he is a big bodied player who is 191cm and of course mobile. I have been impressed with Jack Maibaum over the last few weeks. He is gonna be more than ok. Strong, reliable, a very good kick and that rarest of creatures a FB that can actually kick in.Last edited by wolftone57; 11 May 2017, 01:21 PM.Comment
