He was part of the team at the end of last year, including finals. Now Melican has gone past him. I don't think he's going to get back into the side as a tall defender no matter how well he plays in the NEAFL. And Shaw has been playing him all over the place to see if he can't find another way in (a la XR last year).

FT @LionsNEAFL 19.14 (128) @swansreserves 15.19 (109) Goals Rose 6 Robinson 2 Jack Dawson Aliir Pink Ronke Foote Fisher #neafl #goswans
It was pretty even after the first quarter shame that we gave them that head start. However it was worrying how easily they marked the ball in our forward 50 given how strong our back six has been this year.
The end result was indicative of their better play, but gee we blew some chances in that final qtr.Comment

Okay they gave Maibaum's goal to Robinson. Not sure how given Maibaum's size and build difference.Comment

During the footy off-season he went back to Kenya (or Sudan) to participate in a family wedding there, maybe the first time since he was a kid or young (?). I wondered earlier on whether that experience has affected his focus on footy. I can imagine that young refugees in particular may struggle with identity issues from time to time, like 'who am I' and 'where do I belong?' Among all the uncertainties of life as a sort of trail-blazer in the competitive AFL environment it must be difficult to find your way. Even the Irish players whose culture is similar to ours have their problems in finding their feet. Whatever Aliir's issues are I hope we will persevere with him.Comment

There's a KPD slot up for grabs soon and there's always the possibility of injuries but I suspect he's very frustrated. Time will tell of course but I would expect many clubs to be making inquiries to the player and the club re Aliir this off season. I think that he'll stay around but stranger things have happenedComment

Yes, Aliir's seeming dramatic drop off in form, as in comparing his amazing seniors' games last year with his one and only this year, where he was all at sea, could simply be injury related but he is certainly not playing with the same confidence, enthusiasm or class this year as he was at this time last year. I would hate to think that we have seen the best of him and he remains in the reserves for the rest of his time with the Swans.Comment

What a terrible game for our defenders. Probably the worst game Aliir has played in 3 years. Talia sealed his delisting. No need to go on with the others. They were all bad.
The only positive was the continued good form of Rose.
It was interesting that we used our midfielders to go up against 2 very tall ruckmen. Mostly Dawson and Edwards at times. Then we played Aliir in the ruck in 2nd half. We were beaten badly at the stoppages all game, but clearly the coaches were experimenting with idea of playing without a ruckman, because we did have Liam Maze, who could have rucked. Toby Pink also rucked a bit and was okay.Comment

Something must have been wrong with Maze because he could not jump.Aliir was, after a couple of attempts late in the game, to neutralize the smashing we were getting in the ruck.Overall, Brisbane had a side with a lot of senior experience, height and top Academy players. A good test of our players and the make up of our list.
Rose clearly our form player atm.

Apparently Rose had a good game. For anyone who saw the game, has he improved his commitment to play for the team as opposite to being selfish at times?Comment

The game was played at a pace above most NEAFL games I've watched - good experience for the long term.
Yet with all the mistakes I think what really finished us was inaccurate goal kicking.Last edited by dimelb; 6 August 2017, 11:49 AM.He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)Comment

If that is his problem he'll never make it. Look at all the other past and current players who deserved to be playing seniors but didn't get a game. The fact is, if he was good enough he'd be getting a game. His early poor form could be put down to his limited pre season but not it's probably confidence or enthusiasm.
