Match Day 2nd ELIMINATION FINAL Sydney v Essendon

I don't begrudge the Bombers recovery from their Annus Horribillus, they will be eager today to notch a win to help put it further behind them.

Longmire must have the lowest heart rate of all the coaches, surely.
Home ground, idyllic weather, full house, fit and battle hardened.
    To get this far...
    Swans by 21.

Sunny day, speedy Bombers, turnovers galore, our strongest side for the year, Swans by 30 points, or more. Won't see Bombers kick a string of goals like last time. Then onto the NEAFL flag!

        Swans 13.18 - Bombers 11.7.
        Papley to have a blinder.
Melican will be shaky early , but Big Brother Reg will help him.
Zaharakis is the danger man - we must keep him quiet.

Quite breezy just now but dry, warm and sunny. I'm both nervous and quite confident. Bombers will be up for it but our form is so much better than the last memorable meeting.

Yes much the same way that I'm feeling. While I am quite confident, there's that little worry in the back of my mind, that maybe our season could suddenly come to a grinding halt, after all the momentum of the great recovery.
But there are a few reasons for my optimism. Firstly, our top inside midfielders, Kennedy and Parker, should have too much hardness for their midfield. This is backed up with our extra midfield depth, with Heeney, Hewett, Hannebery, Jack, Jones and Papley all capable of winning contested ball and pounding the opposition defensively. And speaking of defense, since our 0/6 start, our defense has been the best in the league, so hopefully that can continue today. We should have the match ups to shut down Daniher, Fantasia and Tipungwuti, who I see as the main threats. And finally, good transition out of defense and the winning of contested ball, should give our forwards plenty of opportunities. From those, I can't really see Essendon stopping all of Franklin, Reid, Rohan and Papley.
            Go Swans.

Unfortunately Melican out with a tight quad. Interesting that Cunningham comes in instead of Aliir. Hope Reid doesn't have to spend too much time down back.

                I don't like having late changes. ????

Oh - Reg is gonna have to talk to somebody else.

Bombers forward line isn't too tall so Jones will probably just play mostly in defense instead.

Rampe on Daniher, Grundy on Stewart. With Reid switching into defense when required. If Hooker was playing Aliir may have come in instead.

I was thinking that Melican may have spent a bit of time on Daniher, since he's faster than Reg and taller than Rampe, so I don't like that out. Plus I suspect that late outs can have a small negative mental effect on players, which can be magnified, if the opposition can get an early scoreboard break and/or we start getting flogged by the umpires.

Even if Reid has to play back, we still have a fairly tall forward line with Buddy, Sinclair and Rohan. Even though I'm an Aliir fan, I think the Cunningham swap for Melican makes sense. Essendon's speed is the bigger worry. This change gives us a bit more flexibility based on how the game plays out.

Rampe played on Daniher last time didn't he?
