I agree re Newman, in particular. Those speedsters you mentioned counterbalance the lack of speed in our midfield guns: Parker, Hanners, Kennedy. We've also chosen McVeigh, despite his slowness, because he's smart and winner.

I'm a bit disappointed not to see Fox today, but very happy for them to invest in Hayward and Florent.

Yes, and for players that are around 199cm tall, Buddy is probably the quickest. Which I think might be a major advantage today. If we can create some space up forward, Buddy and Rohan should have too much pace for the Port defenders.

I seriously doubt that McVeigh has anything like that impact given the circumstances with each team.

For the record, I haven't called for McVeighto be dropped.
        Or any other player.
We're one game in, and for me they all get hall passes for the first 3 rounds.
after that, McVeigh needs more than just to be a leader on the field.

I don't think Florent is that quick, was poor one on one last week and slow to the contest. Hayward had a lot of stats but did bugger all until 2 late goals. On stats alone he probably kept his spot. I thought Newman was very indecisive last week. He wanted to hold onto the footy for ever, when he should have and could have moved it on quickly to a certain forward who was tearing it up. Interesting to see Fox come in for Jones rather than Newman. Still don't know how Cunningham keeps his spot.

Florent is more elusive rather than having straight line speed. He topped the last time they did the beep test (I think 16.2).

Think of all those kids in hospital, Nico, watching the game and smiling and saying: "There's Harry! I know that guy". We wouldn't want to disappoint them, would we?

Agree, seems to be a misconception that he is quick, compared to Fox he is slow.

Changes for Rnd 2 V Port Adelaide

Against Eagles, Florent was second fastest on the ground behind Jetta. He was the fastest Swan along with Papley.

Florent was the fastest Swan in attack.

                    Stats courtesy of AFL app.

                        Flying Florent
Before this week, the most number of touches Swans tyro Oliver Florent had gathered in a game was 13. Against the Power, the 19-year-old racked up 20 touches, including 10 contested possessions and 4 tackles. His night was better than getting a few kicks ? he will have learnt plenty during a stint running with Port star Ollie Wines in the third term, while a bone-crunching second-quarter bump on Brad Ebert showed there was a hard-edge to his game.

Certainly Florent's selection for today's game suggests the coaches aren't the complete idiots some would paint them as. I thought he was close to our best player in the first half, though he faded in the second half (or was playing a role that involved less ball winning - maybe the run with role AG mentions). Certainly a lot to work with.

Florent impressed me tonight, did some very good things, future looks bright (gotta wear shades). Shouldn't have dropped Newman though, would have made a difference.

No-one would have made a difference tonight. Whatever was preventing the team handling/using the ball adequately infected the entire team. Newman would have made zero difference.

One pleasing aspects from today, Ollie looks like he could be some special player. Hoping a new umpire boss might change the trend for the last five years or so, but alas I was wrong!! Count six push in the backs in the third quarter and none were paid. Then will about six minutes to go they award a free kick against Towers for pushing in the back with a perfect tackle. Had to have a chuckl to myself. Anyhow miss marks and fumbling was embarrasing, but that is usually the way we start the season. Still think Rohan does not deserve to be in the team.
