Swans look to speed up forward - sydneyswans.com.au

Sydney's key forward shortage could force the Swans into a new-look structure focused on speed and mobility when they take on Geelong at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday, and star midfielder Luke Parker thinks it could work.

With their two best tall targets Lance Franklin (bruised heel) and Sam Reid (quad) both unavailable, and Callum Sinclair playing in the ruck to cover the absence of Sam Naismith (knee), the Swans' options are limited against the Cats.

Ruckman Darcy Cameron could come in to allow Sinclair more time inside 50, and while Tom McCartin is a competitive and developing talent, the 18-year-old likely needs more time in the NEAFL before he's tested at senior level.

Aliir Aliir, who was tried forward against the Western Bulldogs in round five, is more suited to a key defensive role.

A fast Sydney forward line where the likes of Tom Papley, Gary Rohan, Will Hayward and Kieren Jack could worry Geelong's backline, with Parker and Isaac Heeney both capable of causing headaches with their overhead marking ability as permanent forwards.

Ben Ronke is another Swan in the mix with his pace, and the rookie could be called upon to debut at the Cattery.

He is probably the first picked at the moment. Wow. It goes to show how fragile an AFL list can be some times. If we were doing a SWOT analysis of our team right now, there is no doubt that a Sinkers injury would be high up on the "threats" list.

Might be a good time for him to negotiate that lucrative contract extension.

I can't see the MC going left field sat the selection table. It will be a short and mobile forward line rather than bring in someone who is not AFL ready. Does anyone know about Melican?
          My team
          Smith Grundy Marsh
          Rampe Melican McVeigh

          Lloyd Heeney Jones
          Sinclair JPK Parker

          Florent Towers Hewett
          Jack Rohan Papley

int: Cunningham, Hayward, Mills, Fox (or Aliir)

so it's Buddy and Hanners out and Melican and Fox (or Aliir) in

Yes, but they didn't say that in the post I quoted.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

I'd be surprised if we showed our hand re any debutantes before 1825 this week.

"Swans look to speed up forward." The problem is that most of our many small players are not particularly fast.

Well I hope if we play like that someone tells the players to lower their eyes and kick to someone on the lead once in a while instead of just bombing it in.
"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."

                          One of my pet hates.
I'm going into depression-mode now. No reason to wait till Saturday.

Ironic that the article alleges this going to be achieved by playing Parker as a full-time forward. But Papley, Rohan, Hayward, Jack are pretty quick. Or in Jack's case used to be.

Whether you play a tall forward line or not, you still need a tall target down the line when other options don't present. Can expect Sinclair to do this all day. So allir will need to be picked.

Cameron, I'm not sold on yet.

+1 we need another tall down the line and I think Aliir will get the nod.
