Freo ended up with a very comfortable 30 point win but Saints pushed them hard in 3rd quarter and beginning of 4th. But the player who probably cost Saints a chance to win was Membrey kicking 1 goal 5 from six very gettable shots.

Pffft, Membrey - poor man's Jordan Dawson!

Saints now looking like bottom 4 side, just not enough talent either exposed or coming up.

Brisbane whilst winless have been very competitive, there's hope building there and they've stopped the homesickness problem.

Gold Coast just didn't need a game like that after their promising start to the season. Agree that Lynch's decision will have a big bearing on this experiment. No home games for half a season couldn't have been worse timed for Stewie Dew.

GWS, couple of years back this was looking to be a juggernaught of a team. A couple of Prelim losses, the slow exodus of first rounders and a bad injury list has exposed their depth. Some of their recruiting of other teams cast offs has been bizarre, not sure about their coaching, too many downhill skiers albeit highly talented. What looked to be multiple flags for the taking may now fall short of any. Watch this space!

Essendon, has turned into a train wreck, when team mates argue so demonstrably on the field you know there's something wrong and it appears there's a lot wrong at Essendon. Lauded for their off season recruiting, it now appears they misread where they were as a team. Almost glad to see that Stringer looks a bust, Bullies players were glad to see the back of him apparently, Geelong dodged a bullet when The Package chose Essendon. Feel sorry for Saad who left a dysfunctional team to choose a dysfunctional team! A lot of over rated players in this team, bizarre decision to give Worsfold two more years when they should have sat tight, may continue to languish outside the eight for years to come.

Another interesting year but feel the next month will see a gap appear between the top eight and the also rans.

Membrey's strength used to be his incredible accuracy. Serious case of the yips.

I think you're right about that. The two games today will tell us more about the credentials of Geelong, North and Collingwood - currently 9th-11th.

Miserable introduction to coaching at the Suns for two Sydney Swans alumni. Senior team coached by Stewie Dew lost to Melbourne by 69 points (21.20 to 11.11). And the Suns NEAFL team coached by Nick Malcescki lost to Brisbane by 92 points (12.24 to 0.4).

That NEAFL score line for the Suns is horrible: the Suns didn?t kick a single goal. And I?ve just read that the NEAFL team included 11 listed players.

The future for the AFL at Gold Coast is looking pretty grim. I fear the Shanghai match against Port could be another overseas embarrassment.

North still look pretty good. They run and link up well, decent talls at both ends.

There have been some horribly soft frees paid to forwards this afternoon. At least one of those to Brown in the final quarter was a classic example of him launching himself forward as soon as he realised he couldn?t mark. It was hard to see any contact on him in the contest. And then an equally soft one to Ratugolea where the soft contact to him didn?t cause him to drop the mark.

It's correctly called "The Clarkson Effect". Brown got one or two of those against us as well. He reminds me of that diving cheat Matthew Lloyd.

One hopes (not with much hope though) that the umps look at these closely afterwards and stop falling for them because it's soccer like embarrassing.

AFL are now appealing the Curnow bros exoneration .
Why didn?t they just ask Clarko what he thinks.

Classic! Ridiculous situation McLachlan has got himself into. The master of optics and spin has really stuffed up this time.

                        They probably did.

Common sense prevailed as Charlie Curnow only fined and brother Ed suspended for 1 week. Fair result.

The end outcome for the 3 umpire contact incidents was as I expected. I'm glad the AFL appealed especially after the Hawkins incident.
