I think that ?playing better in neafl then other?s? is only part of the formula to get into Snrs

Layers : just some of them

    - The role required in Snrs is a big part

    - Matchups

    - availability and depth in Snrs to ensure a win

    - The rotation of players against weaker opposition for future development as well as resting of cemented senior players who are required come the finals

    - a player coming into Snrs May also allow one of our emerging snr players to play a different role ie Ollie may play less wing and more HBF against a weaker team if someone else can play his normal role / roles

    Etc
"be tough, only when it gets tough"

The core personnel are still there, albeit that at least two, maybe three, are playing a bit sore, plus the load has been spread across more players than in the past.

Whether the midfield can lift largely depends, I suspect, on the health of the senior citizens but I'd like to think the club is deliberately working towards peaking in September, not May/June.

This time last year people were remarking on the improvement in the Tigers but few were identifying them as a serious premiership contender. They simply got better as the year went on.
I have a theory - well it might be more like a wish - that the club has been using Kennedy, Parker and Jack much more forward than usual to ensure that they've still got some petrol in the tank at the end of the year. To that end, both Kennedy and Parker in particular have been there when we needed them at the pointy end of the game (did anyone see the stats for JK on the FoxFooty show last night?) but still saving themselves from too much of the hurly burly throughout the match.

Let's hope that's what's happening in any event...

Can't believe Robinson again included. Why do the selectors include him when we know he is not AFL standard. Why not give O'Riordan or Styles an opportunity especially against Saints. I would have also given Cameron a go as Saints ruck isn't bad and it would give Sinclair a rest up forward. Can't wait for Dawson to get match ready

          Gee! Cameron fits all categories.

          1. Match ups; They would have to match him up and I'm damned certain he'd out ruck and out mark his opponent. what's more he kicks goals and is very tall so that would stretch their backs

          2. Plenty of seniors playing and some of them not playing that well. Any of the other top sides who have depth would have Hannas playing reserves. Even Hawks would have Hannas playing reserves. One more bad game and this is alarming not funny. Same goes for Rohan. A good thing they decided to 'REST' Kizza. Why is it when a senior players is omitted he is rested but a sore young player is omitted?

          3. We could have rotated a few players into the team this week and sent a few non performing seniors to the reserves but we didn't. saints have the worst record of any of the bottom sides as far as competency. We could have exploited this to play a few younger players.

I don't agree that Robbo is not AFL standard. He was pretty good and then got omitted for the @@@@ful Hannaberry. Hannas has been crap the whole year not just after injury. Robbo was far better value than Hannas and his game against the Hawks was very good. He collected 20 but it was his work in and under that was under-appreciated. he worked very hard to push the ball out at every opportunity and it was he, Heens, Hewee etc who spurred us to victory that day.

As for the Swans, the Hawthorn game was of a very high quality, but the rest were pretty ordinary and a few downright boring. The last 2 games would fit into this category. I'm always happy to see individual players going well, especially the younger ones who will take us into the future. It's all very positive, but it's not enough to make the game itself a good spectacle.

I care less about the Swans winning games than playing entertaining football. One of the reasons I have been looking forward to Aliir coming into the senior side has less to do with his ability to improve the side than his excitement factor. I also wouldn't mind giving Rose a shot on the same basis.

I've also been hoping to restructure our defence to free up 2 of our more exciting players in Rampe and Jones.

On the positive side, many of our younger players like Hayward, Ronke and Florent do play an energetic brand of football. I think the development path we are taking is very promising.

It would be helpful if a few of our senior players, particularly Hanners and Rohan, could lift their output, as that would go a long way to helping us move the ball with greater proficiency.

To many it may sound irreverent to put entertainment value ahead of premierships, but I prefer to see the Swans play good entertaining football and lose than win ugly. It's really an empty feeling after a game when all you can say about it is: at least we got the 4 points.

I agree totally with this and I think our coaches are to blame for this situation. They always play safe and they are far too defensive. I watched the game again and was bored @@@@less. Not only that I thought the standard so low that a VFL side could have beaten either Blues or Lions. We stuffed up so many times in both matches and bombed the ball long when there was nobody to bomb to that I was even frustrated on the Blues replay. I HATE ugly footy. I don't want us winning ugly.

I still love watching the games played by Wazza, Healy & co. They were exciting games. A pity we didn't win a premiership. Our coaches are very defensive and are stifling the natural ability of the young guys. I would just like to see one game where the kids are allowed to let loose. We've seen signs; Ollie at times, Heens, even young McCartin and Stoddart. But they always seem just a little restrained as though they want to do one thing but think about it and do something else. The game plan thing. Ollie even said he would not do that run and goal again. He's use tempo footy. What a great pity and waste of wonderful talent with great footy smarts. He would bwe better off playing somewhere where he is appreciated for his ability.

More than hope Giant. I actually think this is happening and it's very sensible as well as good for development of the young players and our future.

I think it's certainly true that Kennedy and Parker are being used more forward but I am not sure what is cause and what is effect.

Have they been used more forward because
                  a) they're carrying injuries that limit the time they can spend in the midfield?
                  b) to keep them fresher for the business end of the season?
                  c) to develop younger players by giving them more time in the midfield?
                  d) as a necessity because Reid has been out for practically the whole season, Buddy has been missing for a while and restricted for longer, and the rest of the forward line is teenagers, or near teenagers?
                  e) all of the above?

We will agree to disagree about Robinson. I certainly disagree that he was one of the players who spurred us onto win against Hawks. Robinson is a fringe player in my estimation watching all the games he has played these last couple of years. But I'm not a selector but I will be watching closely the Sainters game and see his contribution

                            Suns need elite mids
No offence to Robbo but he?s no better than they already have

What kind is that, a player who won't leave once he gets there? Suns have plenty of fringe players, they don't have a critical mass of above average/elite players. I fear that the GC experiment will never get off the ground floor.

The generally tentative / patchy way in which we play does not make us strong favourites in any game ... including tonight ... too much over confidence for a game against a desperate team who did better last week and have some good players if they kick straight (as they did last week) ... Robbo did play
well a few weeks ago ... but does not have great skills or ability to really influence a game ... the selection mystifies me.
