The ball movement from our defensive 50 to forward 50 was good today, perhaps not so much the final ball but at least we didn't struggle to even get it past halfway like last week. Was it the opponent, the venue, the personnel that were the main reasons for this change?

I'm with you. It wasn't a great performance in the sense that we gave up load of really clean clearances to the Roos, and they scored heavily from them, being allowed to deliver the ball in a way that gave our defenders no chance. But when we did get the ball, our ball use was far more controlled, constructive and accurate than it's been for most of the season. Towards the end, when I had pretty much resigned myself to us losing, I almost didn't mind because at least the team had remembered how to play football again.

It's hard to come up with enough superlatives for Ronke around goal. I envisage him moving into the midfield in the near future, maybe as soon as next season. I think he can provide some bite and pace around contests in the way that Jack did at his peak. But then you watch him nail goals like the ones he did today and wonder if he's best left where he is. I guess he can still kick goals like that even when playing in the midfield, especially from forward line stoppages.

Great to see Aiiir kick his first ever goal. Shame he didn't get to celebrate it as first goal kickers normally do, but it's understandable that the focus of the team was on the result.

COR was remarkably cool and collected for a first gamer. He barely put a foot wrong. Whenever you have a favourite in the reserves side who's had to bide his time, you get nervous wondering if they'll step up to the greater tempo and pressure, but he did so today with aplomb.

Newman was excellent in the first half, but maybe quieter in the second. He had some important touches late. Robinson probably had low stats but some really telling moments, including that low, late contested mark. Fox was solid and Marsh provided some good rebound.

Considering the team we had in, and the loss of Kennedy, it was a remarkable win. Just shows how much difference it makes when you have 18 players out on the ground who can actually run.

Ugg i felt north tried to zone more in defence and not press

North wanted to let us bring it in for the entry into the midfield and fight for the contested ball there in numbers ........ they did this quite well north and countered hard on us

I also sense that with Majak and brown wanting massive leads that North prefer to drag us to the wings then move the ball back thru the middle to their twin towers when In attack

North don’t like to press us with high pressure as much in our defensive 50m

The tigers and cats love to high pressure us trying to get out of our backline and control the game here as much as possible

In part, it was the opposition. Ben Brown doesn't chase often and Majak even less. They lost one of their best forward pressure players in Turner.

I've said this before, but we could be a better team without Reg, even though he's our best defender. And in some sense that goes for Macca as well. It was only 52-51, but we finally won the inside 50s for a change. The general slowness of our defence forces us to retreat and defend a smaller space. We were able to get more rebound from Aliir and O'Riordan with some help from Marsh as well, due mainly to the general increase in speed of our defence. We were forced to use Aliir more as an outlet on defence, which gives us more options than the usual kick the ball down the side line. Once we get all the pieces into place we should have a different kind of playing style with more run and offence. Some of it was on display today.

Any chance of moving a home semi (assuming we get one) to Etihad???

Wonderful game to watch, thoroughly enjoyable.

I imagine everyone in the coaching box will claim they were the one who suggested to get Aliir to push forward late.
I knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his time

I wonder how much influence Stevie J is having on our young forwards. Some of Will and Ben's work is reminiscent of SJ's finest efforts.

It was pretty funny on Bounce when they showed a clip of Sarah Oh during the week, who hosts something called Lowdown .
                        She’s a mad Swans tragic.
Nick Del Santo asks her how the Swans are going .
                        She goes :
The Swans are going @@@@house .
She’ll be a lot happier tonight.

That was post game when they were fighting to see who could escape from being interviewed by Jimmy Bartel.

No way! Love having a good rant about the umpires on the match day thread.

Speaking of which, what happened to the 50m penalties for infringing on the mark which we seem to get slammed with all the time? There were at least 2 occasions in this game where we deserved one, even the commentators agreed.

I think the last two weeks possibly overlooked the impact Heeney has on the team. Even at such a young age. He was a huge part of the impetus for our 4th quartet comeback and was no doubt missed both in the mids and up front vs cats and tigers.
He ate more cheese, than time allowed
