Rohan may have broken his hand today in the reserves game. Not that he is the solution on recent form.

Patterns emerge, but do they mean anything? No.

I’m still optimistic. Too little experience and too many injuries leads to inconsistency. It happens. Get over the Roos in a thriller one week, get rolled by the second bottom team at the SCG the next. Good thing is, if we make finals, we won’t be top 2 so we’ll lose our home ground DIS-advantage!

Getting a first gamer to carry the load as a key forward or a ruckman without experience and support around him won’t help him develop. He had a bad first game. Full stop. Hopefully he gets another chance.
No. We drop another tall player to bring him in. Like for like, not a midfielder.

If we keep playing kids, and give Dawson his second game next week, then we have to expect performances similar to this.

Horse’s presser surprisingly calm. Says he thinks Gaz has broken his hand. Jack might be fit.

Horse admitted the Cameron and Grundy experiments hadnt gone as hoped.

Longmire said we needed to slow the game down. Keep possession and get the game back on our terms. I think older heads help with that.

I’m genuinely ambivalent about youth v experience. Would love to bring in some older players but none are fit or playing well.

Is Jack going to offer more than Dawson in the next 5 weeks? Or Towers? Or even Robbo?

            OUT: Cameron, Fox
            IN: Dawson, Towers

It was just one of those games, like last year's final v. Geelong, where the whole team is off so badly that it hardly pays to single out individual players, selection decisions or coaching.
              1. GC were badly undermanned and were playing with even less experience in their side than we were, but they came out in the NEAFL curtain raiser with 4 qtr intensity and beat us easily in that game.
              2. In retrospect, the reserves game was a sign of things to come.
              3. Both the Swans and NM, after playing at such a high level last week, were totally off their respective games and badly beaten but undermanned teams. I don't know what the connection is, if any, but interesting nonetheless.
              4. It's hard to fathom how the Swans could go goalless for 2 consecutive quarters, especially against GC.
              5. I haven't been impressed with Marsh's game for a while, but I don't think Grundy would have made any difference. We weren't hurt by those matchups and Grundy wasn't all that hot in the reserves game anyway.
              6. Dawson and AJ are the only ones that look ready for a senior game based on the reserves game. Foote is an outside chance. We can always bring Reg in for Marsh.
              7. I'm surprised we didn't play Cameron more in the ruck. I know the reasoning behind it, but when things aren't working why not try it and play Cameron mostly in the ruck and have Sinclair play forward.

I don't think we have that big a list of available players to make many changes for next week and it doesn't seem to make much difference anyway. We can't drop the whole team.

At least we made Stewy Dew happy. There's something about dew and the SCG that just doesn't work for us.

                Just back from the game.

I have seen hundreds of Swans games over the years and I must admit today was the most disappointing, pathetic, dismal, shocking display I have ever seen.

There has to be players and coaches held to account for what happened today. After a very good start the wheels just fell off and there was no one to help get them back on. No coaching, no planB, no strategy and no effort.

Our game plan according to Horse is : as we have the best forward in the comp. play him around the centre, dont play him in the forward line so he can be one on one, if we get the ball just handball straight to the opposition, if we still have the ball after all of that, just bomb it forward where Buddy (if he has got there from the centre) will always have 2-3 players around him. If the ball goes into the opposition forwards just stand 4 mtrs behind all day and let them take easy marks. Its a very simple game plan for a very ordinary coach.

For once....and it had to be against us. The Suns are certainly not famous for desperate footy.....and we obviously forgot that we are.

I think teams sets themselves to play hard & desperate against us because that used to be our forte. Plus Dew is trying to get GCS to play the Swans brand.

After qtr time it was a mix of drops in skill and intensity. Worsened by some poor decision making and leading. Don't call for the ball when you are being worn like a glove. Not enough awareness across the group as to what was needed - some kept trying the play on approach when it was clearly not working. Group think was off big time. Meh

In what world does Grundy need to come thru the 2s after being a late out for 1 week

It’s a worry when Steven May responded in an interview that “we felt we could get Sydney on the outside”

How will hannes and jack get back in when the current team is just hanging on against the teams that take us on via the outside flanks?

The rule changes certainly worked well for the teams that stacked the fast and lighter outside players in their ranks
