As I’m a Victorian Swans supporter who unfortunately lives in SA, calling teams interstate is altogether confusing!

Not a big Nathan Buckley fan but I must respect 2 actions of his today. Consoling the Magpie cheer squad members when their banner fell apart quicker than Kurt Tippett, on the biggest stage, of the biggest day for them, in the most public of ways. The cheer squad are, in their own way, a significant part of the Grand Final day experience. They take their job very seriously and what occurred was quite embarrassing for them. At a time when Buckley’s attention could and should rightly have been on match day issues, he took the time to console the cheer squad. The second thing was his consoling the distraught runner after after the game. Even during the coverage when the incident occurred, many coaches would have gone ballistic. But video the cut to Bucks he was collected and measured. I might not like Collingwood or Bucks, but I do respect the character he showed in those moments.Comment

The ‘Boys Club’ (however with Kelli Underwood) and Dermie interviews with Eddie after the Pies previous two victories just bugged me.
He just seems to rub you up the wrong way, Collingwood may be better with a less high profile, less volatile and far less anti Non Victorian President.
He’s reached his use-by date and has gone off.
He must annoy even some Collingwood people.Comment

However, any positive feelings I have for the Collingwood coach are completely obliterated by my contempt for McGuire. Will never forgive what he said about Goodesy and how the gutless Collingwood board and leaders at AFL headquarters let him get away with it. Thrilled they lost!Comment

My opinion of Buckley changed for the better after that "Malthouse/Buckley 2 coaches" thing. Malthouse carried on like a petulant brat while Buckley approached the situation with dignity and maturity. He's maintained that attitude ever since and obviously it was on display again today. While I still feel that he has an extremely healthy self image, I now find him to be quite likeable.

Would like to hear the opinion of others about the goal involving the Collingwood runner. The runner was apparently distraught after the game but, to me, it seemed he was a bit unlucky and was a victim of the Collingwood player's decision to kick the ball in his direction, especially seeing that the kick was going to a single Collingwood player who was close to 2 Eagle opponents.Comment

The fact is that, of all the current home grounds, the capacity of the MCG is unique on allowing sufficient fans to attend to create an epic atmosphere, generate maximum funding from ticket sales and allowing the maximum number of patrons (supporters, members and corporate) to attend.
MCG (Melbourne) 100,024
Optus Stadium (Perth) 60,000
Docklands Stadium (Melbourne) 56,347
Adelaide Oval (Adelaide) 53,583
SCG (Sydney) 48,000
The Gabba (Brisbane) 42,000
Kardinia Park (Geelong) 36,000
Carrara Stadium (Gold Coast) 25,000
Sydney Showground Stadium (Sydney) 25000
The MCG, is in fact, the 10th largest capacity sporting stadium in the world (excluding horse and motor racing venues). And the only Stadium in the top 10 (apart from perhaps RUNGRADO MAY DAY STADIUM) with a playing surface area suitable for AFL football ... so perhaps a neutral North Korean venue might make the MCG-objectors happy?
Like it or not, capacity and revenue will always come into the equation when it comes to Grand Final Venues.
2 solutions are: build more bigger stadiums or have the MCG in-tenanted and un-used except for finals. Neither are realistic.
And before anyone suggests that holding a 3 Stadium Finals Series eg Optus Stadium (Perth) 60,000, Docklands Stadium (Melbourne) 56,347, Adelaide Oval (Adelaide) 53,583 would yield an aggregate attendance of nearly 170,000, the would be 3 times the costs associated with holding 3 grand finals (although this would be potentially mitigated by 3x TV rights I suppose). But with the AFLPA pushing for shorter seasons, I can’t see a 3 game Grand Final Series being accepted any time soon anyway. And all of this is pointless for the next 4 decades while the MCG arrangement is in place anyway.Last edited by 0918330512; 30 September 2018, 12:30 AM.Comment

Perhaps not but it should be a contributing factor. Imagine a GW$ “Home” Grand Final played at a packed Škoda Stadium / Spotless Stadium in front of 25000 fans
