Lachie Neale, for one, has acknowledged him as a huge influence along with Hanneberry, Jack and McVeigh. I for one would be happy to see him as senior coach.
And dont forget Nat Fyfe's acknowledgment of Kirky in his Brownlow acceptance speech.

All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)

We need a replacement for Rhyce Shaw. But still no news !? Will they just leave it vacant and wait for McVeigh next year?

In my opinion we could do worse.

There is a piece about ROK today at Swans great provides success blueprint for homesick Cat - AFL.com.au . He and the Crows have parted ways and is having some media commitments afterwards. Will he be an option to fill our vacant assistant coach job ? Will he be interested to come back to Sydney? Have we tried to get him? Will he be a good fit? Our coaching panel is relatively smaller than many other teams. I don't like the assistant coach job remaining vacant.

I don't think the situations are particularly comparable.

O'Keefe was out of contract and so was able to move to another club (albeit that this was before free agency and moving clubs - to a specific club - was a little harder back then). He chose to stay at the Swans. Kelly didn't have a choice as he is still in contract.

O'Keefe was well into his career and I've never believed homesickness had anything to do with him toying with the idea of a move. It was about money and the chance to play in the midfield, both of which were provided by the Swans once he recommitted. From what's been written about Kelly, it's not so much that he wants away from Geelong as that his wife wants to be back in WA where she will have more family support to help raise three young children. That's similar to the main reason why Jetta wanted to leave the Swans, and why Jolly asked for a trade (and he was still in contract). That situation isn't going to change.

I can't see there being any issues between Kelly and the Cats. They are a well run club that doesn't generally crack the sads when a player wants to leave (unlike a couple of other clubs). They will understand his reasons and I don't imagine there will be any tension between Kelly and the club. He'll just put his head down, work hard, try and emulate the season he's just had, and probably look to be traded at the end of 2019.

Swans tie down coaching panel for 2019 - AFL.com.au

TADHG Kennelly will take control of the Sydney defence next season after replacing fellow premiership backman Rhyce Shaw in the club's coaching structure.

2005 flag winner Kennelly, who was the Swans' NEAFL coach in 2018, will take over the role vacated by 2012 premiership star Shaw, who joined North Melbourne's coaching panel over the off-season.

Jeremy Laidler will take the reins of the Swans' reserves side alongside Lloyd Perris, another former Sydney player, who has returned to the club as a development coach.

Perris, who had three knee reconstructions while he was on the Swans rookie list and failed to play a senior game, has been coaching with Sydney University’s NEAFL team.

Good to hear Lloyd Perris is back at the club, a career cut down by injury. Think he was the last player we took under the old scholarship scheme.

Like 707, I'm glad to see Lloyd Perris back at the club. He's carving out a career in football though his own playing was cruelled by injury. He's thus very aware of the whole person - something that we RWOers can too easily forget when we talk about list-cloggers and denigrate players who leave for other clubs. In August this year he tweeted, "Since I was 16 I've had to learn to look after my mental health as my physical body continually let me down. Now I'm combining both of these and doing the Noosa Tri for Team Beyond Blue." (https://twitter.com/LloydPerris/stat...26616071860224) For me, that understanding - and his personal experience - of the range of stresses that aspiring professional athletes experience is likely to be a positive in his coaching.

I note with interest that he is also quite a reader (https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/...6-lloyd-perris). Mixes Hemingway, Steinbeck, Harper Lee, Kerouac, Tim Winton, etc, with titles like The Mentor, Win Forever, and The Captain Class: The Hidden Force that Creates the World's Greatest Teams.

I'm happy to take a punt on a bloke like that. Might not work, but we might just be developing a gem. His leadership qualities have long been evident. Back in 2013, this was written about him: he was "the inaugural winner of the Cameron Ling medal and won the Ben Mitchell medal this year for his performances in the AIS/AFL Academy. Almost more importantly, the medals were awarded based mainly on leadership qualities rather than skill." (https://www.afldraftcentral.com.au/2...perris/http://)

Let's wish him all the best.

Yes, looking at that list, he does seem to have an enquiring mind. What with the Johann Hari, Yuval Noah Harari, Clementine Ford, Chloe Hooper, Malcolm Gladwell, etc. Though let's just hope that he read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, as a curious period piece, rather than something aspirational.
