Swans chat 2019 season guernsey numbers

New guernsey numbers have been allocated

#2 after years of being a defender's number, will revert to a classy medium forward in Menzel.
If there was any doubt whether Clarke would be a direct replacement for Hanners, he's been allocated his old number #4
Although the temptation must have been there to allocate Foot Foote's old #6, that honour has gone to Thurlow. Foot gets #16
Rowbottom gets Tippo's old number, which must mean Kurt is numberless even though he's officially on the list.
Blakey will be sitting next to Buddy in the locker room with #22.
    McInerney #27
#28 and #31 remain defender's numbers with Tucker and Reynolds inherting those numbers from Newman and Marsh.
Wicks receives #45 which is close to the #50 he wore as a topup.

The 10 players recently welcomed into the Sydney Swans family have this week been officially handed their guernsey numbers for the 2019 season.

I thought they might have given the vacant number four to Blakey in the hope he might one day emulate the feats of another key forward who once wore that number with aplomb.

They still have not updated the website with the new numbers and the draftees do not exist!

I've moved Ugg's post to a new thread because the new jumper numbers were getting a bit lost within the pre-season training thread (and because jumper numbers endure past pre-season).

I see the AFL site has decided to "make a thing" about Menzel taking over AJ's number, suggesting it is somehow cursed (though of course AJ wore 34 for most of his knee recos). It's maybe a good thing that they didn't pick up that Rhyce Shaw was the wearer of number two prior to AJ, and he was also a multiple ACL rupture sufferer (albeit only one of those was with the Swans).

            It'll be weird seeing new number 2, 4, 8, 16, 22 and 27. Numbers that haven't changed for a number of years

I think I read somewhere that our top draft pick often gets a number near a senior player of a similar position on the ground so they can feed off them at all times.
              Of recent years.
              Blakey Franklin
              Florent Kennedy
              Mills Jack
              Heeney Hannebury
              Ling Reid Sick Bay

They might wait for another special indigenous to come along.

That’s the de-Ludwigged version of his name.
