Dan Menzel is an excellent footballer and there's every chance he will light up the SANFL. However, I seem to recall him saying something like he had never felt better when we first signed him and before he required surgery also.
Past players - what are they up to?

“Former Swan and Cat Dan Menzel has set his sights on proving to AFL clubs he is worth considering in the 2020 mid-season draft as he attacks a pre-season injury free for the first time since he injured his knee in 2011.”
“The 28-year-old has joined SANFL club Central District as a player and non-match day assistant coach”
“I had five or six weeks off and then got back into running and training and I was amazed how my body actually felt, as I genuinely felt like what everyone else feels like normally. I don't have pain, I don't have soreness, I don't have anything. I have never felt this since the first two years of my career," Menzel said.

His recruitment was a little strange, I'd have thought Heywood's presence made Menzel a bit superfluous.Comment

When the club knew he had his first ever full pre season ahead of him this season, I would have thought they would have stuck with him, even been a little excited at the prospect of a fully fit Dan Menzel but it appears his papers were already stamped "Injury liability". Sam Reid, you have been lucky......
It's a real pity and a decision I hope the club doesn't end up regretting.....and with Haywood, Papley and Ronke already at the club, Gray and Taylor have a lot to prove. A real lot.Comment

Menzel, when fit, is a serious talent. A serious talent. I was not surprised they recruited him and once he was, strange or not, I thought he was worth persevering with....and I would have thought that Menzel, at his best, was a better prospect than the at the time 'not always consistent' Haywood. He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. I was very disappointed to see him go and considered him a potentially great asset for us. However, once we had apparently accepted that we were in full rebuild mode, rather than a true finals contender, I think management decided he was surplus to requirements, sadly.Comment

Nick Davis to play NRL Nines
NRL Nines 2020: AFL player Nick Davis to play for Sydney Roosters - NRLI knew him as a gentle young man, I cannot say for sure the reasons for his decline
We watched him fade before our very eyes, and years before his timeComment

I regularly have a coffee in the Entertainment Quarter (the old Sydney Showground), and the Swans and Roosters players and staff are very much in evidence and do a bit of mingling.Comment

Compared to Mills, Allir, Rampe, O'Riordan and Cunningham, I believe we've now got the right mix of attacking flair and decisive defence. LLoyd also provides the outside run and carry that Newman offered but with more pace and grit than he was able to produce. Its true that Newman was a superior kick but Dawson has all of the quality that he showed when delivering the ball but with better marking and decision making skills.Comment

Paul Roos has left fox footy. The man has the best career timing I've seen. He always leaves on his terms, and never waits until he's worn out his welcome.
Because of this, I bet all his previous employers (swans, Melbourne, media companies, etc) would welcome him back anytime.
A good lesson in career management.Comment
