So it's kind of like the plot of the "movie" Blinder that Archer "produced" a few years ago where a club great returns to
his old club to clear his name and save the club from oblivion. Awesome. That is going to end well.

Darren Jolly made an extremely disturbing Insta post last night (has been found ok now). Looks like he is going through an incredibly tough time.

Was great to see so many ex Swans teammates getting in to action to help him.

Was very glad to hear he is okay. Really going through a tough time by the sounds of it.
"You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."

I seem to recall that a key reason that Jolly left Sydney after the premiership was because his wife (now ex) insisted on them moving back to Melbourne. He was not so keen on the move. Apparently she is a very dominating personality.

Regardless of that, I sincerely hope that Darren can get his life back in order and he will forever be known as a Premiership player at two Clubs.

I think that's probably an unfair observation. They had a young family. She needed support from her family. My memory might be playing tricks (though I think not) but I believe there was a suggestion she was struggling a bit with PND.

I think everyone should back off making comments about a relationship (any relationship) that they know little about.

Nearly all broken relationships involve a great deal of hurt for all involved - both partners, kids, relatives and friends. It is not uncommon for people who are hurting to say and do unpleasant things which to them are ‘The Truth’. Objectively it is rarely that simple.

Clearly Darren is hurting badly. But by his Instagram post he has unleashed a tirade of abuse and vitriol on to his ex-partner. I note she has had to delete many nasty messages from her own account and turn off comments.

I suggest we don’t join into this exchange

Fair enough Meg......having been through similar myself, I probably shouldn't have implied anything, especially as I was not aware of the content of Darren's post and as I know it takes two to cause a break up and no one person is to blame. Good luck to both of them....

He's better known for his coaching but Denis Pagan trains the horse that just won the Victoria Derby at Flemington. Pagan played 23 games for South Melbourne in the 70s.

Denis Pagan is a horse trainer? That puts a new meaning on Pagan’s Paddock!

That was also my recollection (though all hearsay in any event).

It’s correct, It’s been confirmed (including by Darren) several times over the years. Paul Roos knew at the time which is why he was supportive of Jolly leaving (provided Swans received appropriate compensation).

‘Darren Jolly was a pivotal player in their 2005 premiership and a pillar of the old high-stoppage game that was a Sydney trademark between 2003 and 2009. But when he wanted to return to Melbourne to the support network of family for his wife who had developed post-natal depression, Roos said he knew he had to help him get there.’

I think Rhyce should come back to the swans in some type of coaching capacity. Out of the Melbourne fishbowl, and he'll get whatever support he needs.
His brother Heath can do work experience (at a very low, minimal wage), seeings he's been dropped from the bogans.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
