Chris Judd says the Crows should trade one of the Crouch brothers. I reckon either would be a handy addition.
Crows should trade midfield gun: Judd
Speaking on Channel 9's Footy Classified, Judd said the Crows' on-ballers lack leg speed and would be well served by finding a new home for either Brad Crouch or his brother Matthew.
"The Crouchs are both really consistent ball hunters and both have had a great year," Judd said.
"I think you can only have one genuine ball hunter in your midfield and I think, perhaps, even though both the Crouch brothers are brilliant players, one of them should look elsewhere to open up and get some leg speed into that team.Comment

There's an AFL.com.au article assessing the status of all our 30+ year old players, and whether they should stay or go. I agree for the most part, except I think McVeigh could go either way. He's definitely still good enough for senior footy but he seems to be struggling with injuries now and is keeping another young gun out of the side. Smith has to play on. Also I didn't realise Sinclair was 30+ !
STAY: Lance Franklin, Josh Kennedy, Jarrad McVeigh, Callum Sinclair, Nick Smith
GO: Heath Grundy, Kieren JackComment

If you need more speed in your midfield, you find a way to add those players to it, you don't swap out your existing A graders (and we should know)Comment

Even if you're prepared to ignore the fact that you'd be splitting up brothers and the upheaval that trading one of them may cause, that is a ridiculous call by Judd.

We need to cut another 8 players to get the list size down to 40 for the draft and trade period and that's with Reg already gone. At this point, I think all 3 of McVeigh, Jack and Smith will be in the 8. The 3 additions this year, McLean, Hirst and Knoll would also be cut. And we still need to find another 2, at least, but there aren't too many obvious ones after that. Maybe Tucker goes due to injury woes. About a half dozen others could either stay or be cut.Comment

I don't see the point of keeping either McVeigh or Smith. It's not only age, but also their vulnerability to injury. Even if they were fit to play next year, they will just take spots away from young players that need senior games to develop. I don't think they add enough marginally, even when fit, to keep them on the list.

For someone who famously took no notice of the media and was disdainful of it when playing, Judd has joined in enthusiastically and a la McGuire doesn't let conflict of interest bother him. Put his foot in it as a board member on Teague contradicting club's position. Great player, ordinary commentator.Comment

I admit I'm very surprised at Judd making comments on other clubs' list management concerns, given his position as Director of Football at a club. Holding that role and also working in the media brings challenges, and arguably one should choose to do one or the other. But if someone's going to try and do both, I think they need to limit the scope of what they comment on with their media hat on.Comment

No. Already replaced. We went from a list size of 46 to 48 by the replacements of Tippett and Grundy in the midyear draft, plus adding McLean for the injured Maibaum and signing Barry O'Connor for next year. So we now stand 1 over the maximum list size in respect 2020.Comment

McVeigh and Smith some of my all time favorite Swans players. Hard to see them being part of the next flag push. Sad to see them go but reality dictates it. COR, Stoddart, McInerney and Ling all speedy emerging players.Comment

A number of list management challenges this year, at least Salary Cap pressure is not one of them :-)
How many retirements, Tippett, Reg, KJ almost certainly, Macca highly likely, Smith who knows.
Players in the delist/cheap trade gun like Rose, Fox, Cameron. Has the Menzel experiment run it's course?
How to manage the rookies, a number of who are on the cusp but may never make it. Tucker was recruited as an injured player with a lot of upside so I think they'll hold their nerve given he looked very good as a 17yo. Pink, has he done enough, Maibaum the same.
So many questions will be asked, difficult decisions to be made but we will have at least two very good ND picks and about 4-5 in the 40-60 range, we could do some clever pick trading if we don't want to use more than 3-4 ND picks as there are teams short of picks.Comment
