Some reasonable improvement across the ground, particularly in pressure. Backline caused me some angst at times, though they were reasonable through the middle two quarters. Thought a solid handful of Swans had really good games - Sinclair, Jones, Heeney, Papley, Kennedy. And Thurlow, while not starring, was pretty solid in his first game for the club.

Looked more comfortable the longer the game went. Pretty good first up effort.

            Yes, plenty of good performers.

I thought that Jones was probably our best, edging out Heeney, Kennedy and Sinclair. Mills was good down back and will probably have to play a bit more like McVeigh in the coming weeks. Rampe, Aliir and Thurlow also handy. Cunningham his usual tidy self. Lloyd also had his usual large amount of possessions, without being hugely convincing. Nice spread of goal kickers.
Hopefully for next week, the Melbourne defence will play like they did last night and we should end up with an even larger spread of goalkickers.

A win is a win at the end of the day, and there were some encouraging signs.

Get that damn man Reid a glove or something - getting around the ground well, getting into good position, but dropping a lot of marks.

Thought Sinclair was very good today, Heeney getting back towards his best, Jones and Kennedy were good, and Mills had his best game so far this year. Some promising signs, but still a lot of work to do yet! Quietly impressed with McCartin as well playing in the backline - not bad at first up. Thurlow did well too I thought - a promising debut in red and white.

And the umpiring, dear goodness yet again makes one want to tear their hair out!

Yes, speaking of umpiring, if Carlton had managed to overrun us in the final quarter, I think that we'd all be pointing to the ridiculous fifty payed against Sinclair as the turning point. Seemed about five metres wide of the Carlton player, who didn't even register his presence.

Listened to it in the car driving up from Goulburn - OMG the AFL nation blatant barracking for Carlton made me so mad I went into Dan Murphys at Mittagong and spent way too much money at 3/4 time for it only to be worse in the last quarter - cant these commentators be a bit less biased?? But as MCS said - a wins a win- gotta hope we back up for Thursday night.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure..................

                          Regarding the umpiring:
I'll start off by saying we got a couple of softies.
I'll also say I felt most of the free against us were there.

HOWEVER, it's the things we DON'T get that are galling
I don't think we got any 50 metre penalties. (Was at the game so emotion might have led to me missing one.) The Sinclair 50 was mystifying!
There was one kicking in danger paid. To Carlton. There were two others that should have gone our way but didn't. For goodness sake, Nic Newman nearly kicked Buddy's head off but "play on." If Buddy got the frees that Carlton players got, he'd have kicked 5 or 6.
And another important decision came in the third quarter when, on our forward line, we tackled a Carlton player, the ball dropped to ground, Ronke (I think) picked it up and snapped a goal. The umpire disallowed the goal and gave a free kick to the Carlton player who was tackled. Replays at the ground showed no high tackle, no in the back - the only transgression was that the Carlton player dropped it! The goal would have put us 29 points up.

Anyway, I feel a bit better after that rant!

                          GO THE MIGHTY BLOODS!!!

Lovely to AGAIN beat the vultures who waited for us to die in the 90s!

The same thing happened in the last quarter when Thomas got a charity as we were streaming towards goal.

Didn’t think the umpiring was too bad, certainly not compared to last week.

But how Papley didn’t get a free kick for either contact below the knees or high contact in the same tackle I have no idea.

Trying to watch videos of highlights, interviews and Longmire press conference on Swans website or AFL site. Have both a very new iPad and laptop. Videos won’t come up and not the first time!
