I read recently that Ling has suffered yet another injury setback. This time a patella tendon issue (knee swelling). It's expected to keep him out for a number of weeks. The guy can't take a break. Will we ever see whether he is up to it? A Number 14 selection too.

"Ling – the 14th overall pick in the 2017 NAB AFL Draft – has torn a plantaris tendon that runs adjacent to his Achilles. He had been progressing well from a significant toe injury, but will now be out of action for four to six weeks"Comment

Yeah some confusion. Looks like Hayward, injured.Comment

I was about to post on here my rage with Menzel being dropped as, even though he was relatively quiet last week, it was his first game so no doubt nervous and it was also against his old club to make things even harder for him (look at Rohan). He has more talent and pure skill than 95% of the players on our list so we need to at least give him an opportunity to settle in before dropping him!
But I don't know if I need to rant as the Swans site is actually reporting the changes:
Out- Fox (inj) and Hayward (inj)
In - Rose, Thurlow
I'm hoping that these changes are correct (even though Hayward is inj hopefully it's only minor).

Eagles may also be without Elliot Yeo, according to the 'teams' article:
"Meanwhile, mystery surrounds Eagles wrecking ball Elliot Yeo, who has been named despite not being spotted at Perth Airport as they flew out on Friday.
West Coast has already lost dependable skipper Shannon Hurn (hamstring) and emerging forward Oscar Allen (ankle), with Josh Rotham and ruckman Tom Hickey coming in as replacements.
Adding to the intrigue, emergencies Josh Smith and Brendon Ah Chee have reportedly travelled with the side, intensifying speculation of a late change."

Thought we had too many specialist forwards last week so not too surprised to see one make wayComment

Depends on how you (or rather, the coaches) view Rose. He plays midfield at NEAFL level but I imagine he'll primarily be in the forward line on Sunday. He's probably the closest like-for-like replacement for Hayward that we have available.Comment

James Rose has dominated at NEAFL level playing predominantly as a midfielder who starts in the centre. He obviously is a goal kicker as well but has shown in the past when playing as a forward at AFL level he's mostly struggled a bit (barring his 1 qtr debut).
I really think we need to either play players in the NEAFL in positions we want them to progress to in the AFL and/or select players to fill specific roles in the AFL team e.g. specialist forward, defender, winger etc.
Case in point this year is Rowbottom. He is clearly a young inside mid who has been performing well so far in the NEAFL and when he has played his 2 AFL games where have we played him? Predominantly forward! Of course the kid is going to struggle! He probably hasn't played in that position his entire footballing life!
We do this all the time with young midfield players, (I don't need to rant on more about Mills and Heeney) playing them as forwards or backs for years before a spot opens up! I know it's probably done to try and protect them a bit as they mature but AFL kids these days are more and more prepared than ever to make an impact early if you just give them a chance and I feel playing them out of position is more a hindrance than a positive and may lead them losing confidence and possibly question their own ability. Hopefully this doesn't happen with Mills who looks a little lost this year...
Just my two cents!
