Look at almost all leagues and their media and almost all of them have degrees in journalism. This is hardly the case in the afl where its filled with ex players and two formally educated journos.
Gerard Healy is an exception surely? I like his injury insights, as a former Physio

An artist by the name of Matt Adnate is in the finals of the Moran Prize with this effort. Thought it was pretty stunning. It's called, Be Brave.

That photo coud have been the basis for a fiendishly difficult Spot The Ball competition.

              Wow.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.

Yes, each time I look at it, it just seems that little bit more insightful and brilliant.

A thoughtful piece by Martin Flanagan on Adam's, and others', influence:

                      The limits of sport's influence
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

I'm really glad the 2015 season is over. Horrible year for footy. Adelaide game was a bright spot (thanks again Ktigers) but was only there because of the horror in the background.

Still irks that he wasn't and isn't allowed to bow out as the champion of our football club
He ate more cheese, than time allowed

That is spectacular. All the entries are here:

Doug Moran portrait prize finalists for 2016 ? in pictures | Art and design | The Guardian

Competition looks pretty fierce, high standard this year but the Goodes is by far the best in my unbiased estimation

Yes, I also thought the Goodes portrait was the clear standout. But I may also be biased?

Great players have walked away from the sport for lesser reasons than Goodes has.

I wouldnt blame him for leaving AFL footy behind.
