I thought our defenders, including Mills did a great job. Remember, Mills was matched up against a bona fide, key position forward in Himmelberg. With all the inside 50s GWS had, he would expect to kick a bag full against Mills. Mills, with McCartain and Aliir helping, restricted him to only a handful of goals. He did fine playing out of position. And don't underestimate the rebound that came out of defensive end too - Mills was pretty instrumental in this too.

Hopper and Mils both academy talent from the same draft rated relatively evenly at the time as inside mids
Hopper is turning into an elite mid capable of turning a match, whilst Mills has developed into an ordinary to average defender.
So frustrating that Longmire is blind to itComment

handedly saved a game for GWS. Got to feel for Rose, he would be devastated after those two mistakes in the last quarter. He has been in
the system for a long time now, and is probably just 5% off being a regular AFL player. I thought Mills did pretty well. Himmelberg is big and
fast and does mind throwing his weight around, but was kept to just 12 touches and two goals.Comment

While he (Heeney) was busting a gut for four quarters, and regularly putting his body on the line, Rose was just meandering around, watching Giants players run past him. I thought his intensity was pretty decent in his first couple of senior games this year but the Essendon game and this don't support the idea that he has finally learned about the intensity required to play AFL football. He has the skills, sure, but he's either severely lacking in fitness or doesn't have the mental willingness to push through the effort barrier.Comment

Clearly on the replay his arm was pulled down. In slow mo you can see a solid 2 hand mark then his opponent drags down his left arm a long way. You also see the GWs player look towards the umpire with a look of dread. It was not close to a 50/50 decision. Then you see Reid desperately try to grab it low down as his arm was dragged to ground level. It was an absolutely gutless non call by the umpire, who wasn't prepared to put his goollies on the line in a tight finish. The non 50 metre call on Menzel was also a shocker. That is 50 metres every time.Comment

You could argue that Heeney's 2 misses, the non 50 call and a poor second quarter were factors in our loss, but you can't argue the fact that the umpiring decision in the final moments was a match losing decision.Comment

The two non-decisions in the last few minutes were two of the worst I’ve seen, as they were crucial to the result and glaringly obvious. Reid’s mark was held for long enough, he had his left arm dragged down, and it is clear the GWS player thought he’d infringed also. The non-50m penalty against Menzel was just staggering.Comment
