One of the absolute best. Huge part of us winning 2012 premiership.

Massively underrated and probably the best small defender in the game over a long period.

Of all the years he played I only remember once or twice he was beaten. Used to call him the glove.

One of my favourites, and seemingly a great clubman.
He ate more cheese, than time allowed

Shame that it had to end without him getting back on the field, but I suspect that there's a strong element of team first in the decision. That is, he could have attempted to get back next year, but the likelihood was that he would never get back to the player that he was.

One of my favourites. Week in, week out, he could be counted on to play his role to the best of his abilities. Which led to many games, where the best small forwards in the competition, were left wondering just what went wrong. And even though he won some accolades, I think that he should of been more acknowledged. The fact that he only made the All Australian side once, points to a bit of a flaw in the way that small defenders are selected. It seems that fantasy points are usually more of a criteria, rather than whether they consistently beat the best small forwards.

But anyway, I'm sure he'll have plenty of other things to look back on. Best Swans Clubman. Swans premiership player. The times that he beat Cyril, the times that he beat Stevie J, the times that he beat Milne, the times that he beat Le Cras, the times that he beat Eddie, etc.

            Disappointed with this.

Thought he'd play on. Still definitely in our best 22.

One of my favourites. Always just got the job done.

With Jack likely to make a call too, there will be a massive re-shuffle next year.

Love the way Smooch went about it. A legend of our backline. His battles with Betts was a highlight for me.

Oh handsome young Smooch... now who will I swoon at?
                Thanks kiddo.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

Smooch gone - that's the end of an era. And so underrated. You'd always just hear that Betts/Rioli/Milne "is having an uncharacteristically quiet game" and we'd know why. I even went to a club post-match event when they asked Nick "what did you do out there today? I didn't notice you." Thanks Nick - who can replace you?

Great player and great clubman. I hope he stays part of the club.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

Well nobody really. I thought Longmire's comments were great. How do you stop players like Eddie Betts, Cyril, Toby Greene,
Steve Milne etc? You put Nick Smith onto them...
