Our forward line of Blakey, Hayward and Mccartin were absolutely woeful.

Poor games by Blakey and Dawson. Young players with 2nd year blues but really costed us.
Heeney was all effort and 0 impact.
Amazing games by Kennedy, Parker and Rampe (as expected). Florent good too.
Brand and McInerney great as new additions. Taylor proved me wrong
Great game. Good to have the footy back!Comment

Gotta give Sinclair some credit as well, broke even in the hit outs and did far more around the ground than Bellchambers who is rated a pretty good ruckman.

Yep there is plenty of good signs that we are on the right track. But its going to take some time for skills and experience to build up, so I feel we are going to be in for a frustrating on and off season this year to say the least."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

We just got punished from a few clangers. They are going to happen after a long break but it is still disappointing nonetheless.
The bright side is that players like Dawson and Blakey who were ordinary have shown such a high ceiling that we know that we will win some of these games when they are right.
McInerney has something. His numbers weren’t great today but he passes the eye test. I thought O’Riordan passed the same test.
I wouldn’t be making mass changes just yet. Probably just Naismith for Sinclair when he is fit.
P.S. I thought we got the rub of the green overall with the umps today. It’s sad that it didn’t help.Comment

I thought we were lucky to get that close. Can't remember a game where the umpires favoured us like that.
Too many passengers today. We need everyone to contribute.
I don't know why Longmire persists with Dawson in the backline. I feel he is wasted there.
The game was lost in the first quarter. Can't allow teams to get a lead like that.
Hopefully Naismith will be fit for next week.Comment

We lost it out of the centre and our incessant poor short passing through the middle of the ground to small players under the pump. We turned it over so many times. I hope they show Blakey his low lights. At 12 minutes left in the last quarter he had the chance to move it deep into the forward line but decided to chip it sideways to nowhere. At that point we lost the momentum. Also the number of dropped marks cruelled us.
We certainly need Naismith back for those centre clearances.
Agree on Heeney. He dead set had wooden hands and continually played from behind for the big specky.
By the way how long does Hayward keep his spot. Over rated and does nothing, and misses set shots.
A game the we tossed away.
I thought the umpiring was good except the free against Rowbottom for holding the ball when he actually handpassed. A heck of a lot of those were let go.Comment

I wasn’t that disappointed by that.
We fought back well after a slow start and as well as a couple of the usual suspects like Parks, Ramps and JPK, thought Ollie, McInerny, Brand and a few others had good games, while a few had downers.
The main thing you can still see is a team that’s still building and lacks connections. The one mentioned earlier where Rowbottom was running down a wing with Heeney in tow, and Blakey with a bucket of space and one on one inside 50.
Good, mature sides work that out and let Blakey use the space. We messed it up, it goes down the other end and Taylor’s skill error gives them a goal.
The other thing I wonder is structural. McCartin and Blakey will be terrific players but I think Blakey is better further up the ground and they might need a big body down there to help them. If Naismith gets right, is it worth keeping Sinks in as a bigger body down forward.'Delicious' is a fun word to sayComment

Heeney is wasted playing that far forward. He needs to be playing on the ball or on a wing. Too ineffectual for someone that talented.
And I'll give up in saying Mills should be playing in the middle too. But of course he should be.
Hope Naismith is back soon.Comment

Heeney needs to play out of the square. Too many times he was way up the field when the ball went forward leaving us with little or no option.Comment
