Great win. Re McCartin there was an article a while ago about since congenital issue with his neck (IIRC). he missed a few games at the start of last year? Anything pre covid19 feels a distant memory.

Anyway, thought Kennedy wound back the clock, Heeney looked lively without ever fully getting it together. Anyone who can't see rowbottoms potential is blind.
He had observed that people who did lie were, on the whole, more resourceful and ambitious and successful than people who did not lie.

Hewett did a great job but would prefer to see him be allowed to run free to get his own ball, he is too good to be a tagger now. Someone like Stephens or Warner

Need to play Melican Brand and Alir if fit, Rampe and Mills not getting enough of it. That would free them up.

This is the round of upsets. Don’t think anyone would have fancied the Hawks, Dogs or Swans but very glad we won. And convincingly.

Didn’t get to see much of the game. Was Hayward really that bad?

You can add Carlton to that list. Over Geelong!

And no, in my view Hayward did OK but should improve his kicking accuracy, like a few others we could mention.
He reminds him of the guys, close-set, slow, and never rattled, who were play-makers on the team. (John Updike, seeing Josh Kennedy in a crystal ball)

He shut down arguably the Roos best player. Huge part of us winning the game. I like Hewitt when he’s off the chain but there was no one else to do that job today, so I’m glad he was there to do it. Higgins had no impact on that game, could have been a different story if he was allowed to do his thing.

Haven't seen us hunt in numbers like we did in 3rd qtr for a while

Excellent display of intensity in that qtr and the foundation of Richmond's game plan last few years and hopefully ours again

Agreed. It was the highlight of the game. Hopefully that carries through to the Dogs on Thursday and beyond.

Delighted with the win. Improved showings from quite a few, Dawson and Rowbottom especially. I thought Hayward was better than last week but needs to keep that trajectory. He's still behind where he was two years ago.

My thoughts go out to Tom McCartin and family. His parents must be dreading that kind of outcome every game. Looked ugly. Glad Tarrant was not responsible. I hope he gets at least one week off to recover and McLean can play in his place.

Speaking of McLean, I thought that was pretty sneaky of Horse to substitute him in at the last minute for McInerney. Don't often see us pull a swifty like that. Works better with the surprise value.

I wonder if they'll recall McInerney with McCartin going out? Anyone's guess.

Lastly, I think Mills is excellent, but he's not a key defender and he can't play the same role as Rampe, despite being a similar size. (There's only one Dane Rampe.) Mills (understandably) gets shown up when mismatched on KPFs like Brown.

Buddy certainly doesn't. There's so much to dislike about Brown, he's a flopper, gets soft frees and that stupidly long gallopy kick for goal

I'd happily take him ahead of the unknown quantity that is Daniher. And I'd welcome him with open arms, if he'd come, even not as an alternative to Daniher.

I can never resist comparing Simpkin to Florent. North took Simpkin with the next pick after we took Florent, and both were very much in the mix for us (in my mind, based on all the phantom drafts and whatnot - no idea what our recruiters were thinking obviously). Both have proven to be good selections and both are breaking out this season. Jy definitely the more impressive in yesterday's game and, in fact, I don't think Florent has had a performance that good. Yet.

I think about the comparison too. Here's their career stats side by side: https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/...&fid2=C&type=A.

They're pretty close, Simpkin just ahead. Last year's stats reflect their career stats, but Simpkin appears to have made a substantial (bigger) leap this year, albeit based on three games.

Having said that, Olly has also improved this year and has done well to establish himself as the third mid playing out of the centre square.

I like him. He might have a "stupidly long gallopy kick for goal"...But it works for him, he's kicked over 60 goals(with pretty good accuracy) in the last 3 seasons.

Seen him interviewed quite a few times and he seems a lovely guy to boot.
