I think Thurlow is being given his last chance to show whether he is worthy of staying on the list. Great to see Wicks in and I am really hoping that he can be our next Papley. Melican is also another who needs to show that he is up to it. When he played seniors last season he was often outmarked by his opponent which is not what you want from a key position backman! Hopefully, he has learnt from those experiences. Stephens is a classy mover who will really develop into a top liner for us in the coming seasons.

To me, there were no surprises with the Outs but certainly the selectors were ruthless this week.

When a side is sitting second from the bottom the selectors shouldn't be mucking around after a loss.

Yeah I found some of the ‘undersized’ comments puzzling also. He’s almost perfect key defender size, height and body wise.

Thurlow to tag Sidebottom ? I’ll be checking what odds he is to get 40 + possessions ...$$$$$

I have a strange feeling about this game, in that I think somehow we’re a chance of pinching it, Yet also could cop a severe hiding. Collingwood have looked real average the past two weeks but we seem to be the team to help side bounce back. We’ve been pretty decent the past two weeks other than small patches.

I fear our lack of experience and team stability will be telling but who knows! If everyone just goes in with the "let's give it a crack and enjoy ourselves" attitude.

ABC are running a weekly series of footy analytics articles, very good, this week looking at stoppage clearances. Interesting that the Pies have dropped right off in this regard. Unfortunately we are negative in both stoppage and centre clearance differential just now. But then we're pretty close to the Tigers on that graph and they're going OK so...just one aspect of the game I guess.

There's an art to the AFL stoppage and it's shaping the Magpies' results

Mills: "You just want to perform wherever you are and get the respect from your teammates. That's what matters the most.

"It keeps adding some strings to your bow not just being a midfielder or defender. Versatility is so important with the short turnarounds. To be able to play the different roles is crucial."

Mills embraces role as Swans' midfield bull Callum Mills is finally being given the chance to show Longmire he can mix it in midfield.

Thanks Meg. I know it’s early days for Mills the Midfielder but found this interesting:

“...whether he is better placed as a midfielder or in defence, where he is among the best interceptors of his size. The debate is very much a live one but those who believe he is more effective behind the ball will note the quarter he was back was the term the Swans played their best against St Kilda.“

I agree. I don’t think the loss to Freo helps us either. Anything from a close Swans win to a 50 point loss is possible.

                          A couple of things:
                          1) Seeing him in the flesh (most recently for me was the WC game at Metricon) he doesn't seem that big. Kennedy, Darling and Waterman all looked alot more solid as does Rampe.
                          2) Lately not playing to his size. Gets out muscled too easily. Overall movement seems impaired as well.
Looked great when he first came in, to the point where I felt he was the obvious successor to Reg. Now not so sure. The injuries might have taken a permanent toll (hope not!).

The point is he doesn’t lack for size. Whether he’s been playing that way is another story. The same way he doesn’t lack for speed, but has looked slow at time’s. I think a lot of can be put down to form and confidence. We know he is capable. He just hasn’t shown it much in recent seasons ( injuries have also played a big part ) .

A few years back he was looking like being a solid replacement for Reg but injuries have put a dampener on that :-(
