Can't remember when I enjoyed a non-Swans win as much as that!

Really pleased for Nicks. Towards fulltime, he looked as if he was about to break out in tears of joy. It must be hard for him, inheriting an unsightly mess and deep down knowing that it won't be rectified quickly, but at the same time, he's had to keep everyone believing that things should be soon changing for the better.Comment

We take the field against the Demons, in a twilight Thursday game. I like our chances of an upset. Melbourne have battled their way into the eight, with a few hard fought wins. You can sense the gathering optimism of their fans. It is in those circumstances, that the Demons like to throw in an unexpected and mystifying shocker. Here's hoping."Unbelievable!" -- Nick Davis leaves his mark on the 2005 semi finalComment

This is from the AFL's match report of the Hawks v Crows game:
Matthew Nicks enjoys his first win in charge at Adelaide as heat starts to rise on Alastair Clarkson
We are witnessing the fall of a great team that still has players remaining from the glory years but bears no resemblance. The refusal to embrace the draft until last year – where the wonderful Will Day was picked up – and the tendency to prioritise experience over youth are finally coming back to bite them. The young players Hawthorn do have don't stack up with most clubs and that's the result of having to constantly unearth gems down the order. No matter how good footy boss Graham Wright and recruiting manager Mark McKenzie are, that's tough for anyone. There's little reason to believe next year will be any better, and the Hawks have calls to make on the likes of Shaun Burgoyne, Ben Stratton, Isaac Smith, Ricky Henderson and Paul Puopolo. We've seen very little of many of the kids out of contract, too, but several of those are unlikely to be on the list in 2021.Comment

I'm certainly not writing Dylan Stephens off yet and I have high hopes that we made a really good call in drafting him with pick 5, but I did watch a lot of U18 footy last year and really rated Serong and thought he looked like he could become a similar player to Lachie Neale and hoped we would take him!
Probably another case of another really good young player dropping down the draft order a bit because he was below 180cm which I think is silly and the same reason I'm bullish on Gulden and confident he can have a real impact in the AFL no matter his short stature!
