Harry C and Fox are becoming quite the pair down back. Not flashy or anything but they're doing a good job.

Glad that Horse played McCartin back. He looks like he’s a natural there.
With Fox, AA, Pelican, Gould you’d hope that Rampe might get to play a more offensive role and Mills might be given leave to play inside the contest.
Cmon Horse!

Is Harry C shaping up as Nick Smiths replacement?Comment

My highlight moment for the night however didn't lead to anything, but that passage in the third where Rowbottom just bulldozed his way through a bunch of playersI just love how he plays the game - I have no doubts we have an absolute star in the making in him. Nice clever finish for the opener too!

"Not trying to win" is a disease that's hard to shake off. Melbourne caught the disease some years ago and still hasn't recovered. I have a lot of good friends who are Melbourne supporters and these lovely people continue to be shafted by a club that, even now, doesn't care enough about winning. Today, a very talented team that needed to win to stay in finals contention played a team that has been decimated by injuries and had nothing to play for. The team that has heart and a soul got the 4 points.
Go you magnificent Cygnets!Comment

G'Day everyone
loved the game vs Melb
reminded me more of the GWS game then the Port game
very exciting to watch
Im not sure why I am target in this thread though ?
I simply hold the view that our recruitment strategy and trajectory is showing the same lines as Melb and Carlton lost in the wilderness........that is a very different issue and totally seperate to enjoying week to week games"be tough, only when it gets tough"

That was the whole point of my post. When I said we had nothing to play for, I meant finals were out of reach. I was lauding our club for its integrity. We're trying to win every game no matter what. We don't tank! We've got too much honour for that.Last edited by Sandridge; 4 September 2020, 08:27 AM.Comment

Yep, John makes sure the standards are high and winning is always the goal.Comment

A few mistakes, but a marvellous win.
Melbourne rested on their laurels - thought we were easybeats.
Very happy today.Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.Comment

No need to worry. Both were just playing the percentages which all good defenders do, especially when they are uncertain as to where their opponents are.Comment

Great game by the Swans. It seems that a lot has changed in structure since Kennedy has come back into the team. Florent and Rowbottom have moved to the wing and hence there seems to be a drop off in their output (0 clearances again for Rowbottom and 1 clearance for Florent) probably to get three different personnel in the middle - Blakey, Ryan Clarke, and Kennedy. I thought that Oli was holding his position well during stoppages but just did not get his hands on the ball. His composure is very good and he does not hack the ball as soon as getting it but he lacks in the foot skills for precise flat passes inside 50s. On the other hand, McInerney has the ideal half forward, wing game for inside 50 delivery (Another Dawson in the making). But he needs to bulk up a bit and get his tank over the next preseason.
Rowbottom is a smart footballer who can do it all but probably again lacks in tank to do the wing role well enough at this stage. I thought that we delivered the Inside 50s through the right personnel this week compared to Ryan Clarke and Aliir in the last game. The inside 50 delivery through Parker, McInerney, Dawson, Blakey, Papley a much better plan.Comment

I am not sure a demotion would've been how either of them saw their season finishing off. Neither seem to be able to impact games much of late. Rowbum at least has moments, but Florent puts in forgettable display after forgettable display. He is not bad, but he is not shining like we need him to. These two were touted as the future of our midfield at the start of 2020 and they end the year being overtaken by a few.Comment
