We were very close in 2016 and if not for other injuries and questionable calls we would have another had a premiership.

Not to mention the positive effect it had on other players around him. Not to mention the effect on memberships.

The deal that I would have questioned rather is the Tippett one. That is in hindsight the one that shouldn't have been made.

But you have to be in it to win it
I agree that Buddy has given pretty good value and has helped develop other younger players. The Tippett deal was a bit of a disaster but most of us were unaware he had a persistent ankle issue. Maybe the Swans were guilty of not doing their due diligence.

      I agree.

It seems the Giants 6 year contract term offer was about right. We're paying 3 years with no return 2020,2021,2022.

On reflection, I am turning toward thinking the franklin deal was an overall negative for the swans.
While at the time, his recruitment made total sense, I tend to agree with your assessment Barry but his injuries aside, I believe the AFL made sure Buddy would be a negative for us once he chose us over their pet project, the Giants. I swear they marked the Swans as never to win a flag while Buddy is with us. Thanks Fitzpatrick, you ****.

I believe I have again stuffed up the 'Pre season general footy chat' thread by posting ABC links. I apologise.....please rectify mod's and I won't do it again!

RWO will have to start paying the ABC and News Ltd for those links soon.

I see today is team photo day. Could mean we see our leadership group for this season. Hoping Cunners or Lloyd get recognised for their contributions during a very difficult 2020. Also Paps for committing to the club as a young forward leader.

Swans site has also gotten ahead of things and already published head-shots for the five 2020 draftees.

Barry's says he's on the turn, and I suspect he's not the only one.
While many remain staunchly pro Buddy (or just pro-Swans?) there seems to be a re-evaluation going on.

On a lighter note - this just confuses me Sam Naismith’s new ink. : AFL

I notice that they obviously couldn’t get a professional photographer for the new headshots. Just appalling

Very confusing! Must have a pet Bulldog.....but WHY? Does 2016 mean nothing to him?!

Edit: Just noticed this: Imgur: The magic of the Internet

Doesn't look like an actual Bulldog. Have to say, it's very cute!

That’s Bobby, a big contributor to Sam’s Instagram and important enough to have an account of his own (bobbybrussels).

I think it is a miniature pug - a cross between pug and Chihuahua.

Sam's dog is a griffon bruxellois. My eldest son is obsessed.

For some reason Sam's does not have the fur on his face that most of them seem to.

Ah ha! Hence the name Bobby Brussels.

I see from a description of the breed that it is said they have no concept of their own relative size and may attempt to dominate dogs much larger than themselves. Tom Papley type recruit?

Easily done in a rush. Check out the RWO bugs/errors thread for my guide to how not to do this

Article from the AFL site today, on Mills moving to the midfield.

Enter the grunt: Why 'massive competitor' is finally training with mids

Longmire was a bit understated, using terms like, "a fair bit of training with midfield" and "a bit more time in the middle"; rather than saying, that we're excited to finally be playing our gun midfield recruit as a mid. Though I suspect that's largely Horse being naturally understated.

He also said that Blakey should be playing more as a mid and that they're looking to use Campbell as a defensive rebounder.
