My impression that Gould is getting close to making his debut, notwithstanding the opinions posted in this thread, is fortified by Don Pyke's comments when he was interviewed by Kane Cornes.
All opinions are not equal. Some are a very great deal more robust, sophisticated, and well supported in logic and argument than others. -Douglas Adams, author (11 Mar 1952-2001)

I'd be disappointed if Dylan Stephens turns out to be a bust considering we'd decided to overlook Caleb Serong who was also on our radar with pick 5. Haven't given up on him coming good for us despite the growing concerns with his recent performances. Fingers Crossed.

The fact that he is/was an avid Swans fan is particularly galling. Nothing against Stephens but it has always stumped me why they didn't take Serong.....whose highlights reel looked more impressive, despite the fact Stephens was already playing in the SANFL. Hope the penny drops for him and he rises to the required level.....with us, not the Crows or Power.

If the number of players flagged as busts on here comes to pass, then we are going to spend the decade in mid table. It's hard to see how we can compete against the Bulldogs, just to name 1 team that looks to be in the 'zone' for years to come.

Stephens, Gould, Ling, Blakey, Rowbottom, Florent: Just too many players we were banking on to take us to the next level. An then the talk about losing players like Dawson. We better hope the doubters wrong, because if they're right, it's going to be a lost decade.

I really think some slack needs to be given to Stephens , interrupted pre season has had many a seasoned footballer have a below par season let alone someone 2 years in the AFL system . We don’t gift senior games and currently he is a little off the pace . He seems to have got stuck in between we’re the play is in the senior games this year . The wings can be a graveyard and you run around like a headless chook when this happens .
Just hope he signs on again as I’m sure he will have an above average career when it all clicks

agreed - he is a skinny 2nd year player. Note, it took another skinny draft pick, Dawson, 4 yrs to cement a spot. His first few games were pretty underwhelming despite the hype from many on here

                Serong v's Stephens
Isn't Serong a nuggety inside midfielder? A bit like Chad? Is he anywhere near as swift as Stephens?

I'm also a bit sus of the Stephens to return home to Adelaide talk? Aren't his parents still in Mildura, they were when he was drafted. It's possible the rumour mongers simply spotted the name Norwood n footywire or whatever and put 2 and 1 together and made 4.

Also seriously how many players actually get homesick for Adelaide? Lycett to Port, Haley and Bryce Gibbs to Adelaide it's not exactly a stampede is it. Nothing like the go home factor that is in effect with Melbourne (funnily enough it also afflicts some non Victorian layers too) and Perth.

Interested to hear during Parker's presser that Laidler is with the rehab/extras group in Newcastle, which explains Cox coaching last weekend. I wonder how that came about.

I wrote elsewhere that our development pipe is clogged. Sounds like the club things so too.

If only Shaw was still out development coach today.

One positive of the move to Melbourne is that it may well help the development of the young players among the #33chosenOnes

When does Paddy McCartin play again? Surely his time in the gulag has expired.

The Swans have played five VFL games since he was suspended so he’s available again.

Tom gave the following update in an article on the Swans site:

"He was supposed to make his comeback last week, until we had to come down to Melbourne.

"The club sent him a training program for the next few weeks, so he's busy doing that in Sydney, trying to keep fit and doing a bit of skills work, so he's ready to play when we get back or if he's able to come down to Melbourne to play a few games.

"He's going OK. He's a really optimistic and positive guy."
