Swans v Giants scratch match

- Warner a bolter for the final midfield spot. Very good
- Fox and Melican looking settled with McCartin. The latter two have big questions over disposals. Need to get them to look at simple options and get to players like Ling and Campbell
- Gould didn't have any real impact. Hope he proves me wrong, but looking flat footed at contests, and not impacting around the ball enough to warrant consideration
- I don't think we utilised the new man on the mark rule as well as GWS
- Coverage finished at end of 4th and players acting like it's finished overall with hand shakes etc. Really odd, not sure what's happening nowComment

Wow Warner had a brilliant 4th quarter. Really put his hand up.
Shame that the Swans two old bugbears are still there...namely schizen set shot kicking and atrocious handling of a wet ball.
Also WTF did we just leave a Giants player (often Ward) arsing about all on his own on the (Giants) defensive side of the stoppage?
Also when is Sinclair going to stop winning a clear tap and then tapping it STRAIGHT into the belly of an opposition player? Does he have a coach or someone of that sort?"I'll acknowledge there are more talented teams in the competition but I won't acknowledge that there is a better team in the competition" Paul Roos March 2005Comment

Only caught a bit of the first qtr and wasn’t heaps to like but Guldens efforts definitely stood out to me.

Campbell playing on ball now, so maybe just cramp.

Why we don't just put the ball into someone like Dawson to kick long down the middle, after the opposition scores a behind, to me is a no brainer. With the new rule of extra yardage at kicking in, his kick landed in the centre circle and the ball found it's way to our half forward line without any team getting a clear possession.Comment

Rowbottom and Dawson - very clean with their hands
Gulden - clean, enthusiastic, naturally gets into good positions.
Ling - good closing speed and tried to break lines on occasions
Logan - flies for a few marks but that conditions and new club probably did not help him
Papley - as usual
Bell - played well
Chad Warner - surprisingly looked ok in the middle
Oli Florent - unchanged from last year. Poor kicks on some occasions and dropped easy balls on a couple of occasions but I guess the conditions were greasy and overall the skill levels were low
Hickey - I thought looked really good in Ruck and around the ground
Kennedy and Parker - usual self
Gould - saw some snippets. Cant really comment much
Campbell - some nice touches but again playing out of his usual position so will take time.Comment

Mills adds a lot of heft to our midfield. Great to have another leader in there and Joey and Parker looked better for the support.
Hickey decent, Papley could've had a belter of a day. Blakey and Florent moved well but neither had their kicking shoes on.
Some great moments of class from the two academy boys.
Those umps hated Mccartin.
Hayward, Sinclair, Reid, Wicks and Rowbottom did nothing.
I'll repeat my earlier call that based on all evidence so far I would have Rowbottom behind Gulden, Bell and Warner. Doesnt have Gulden's class. Bell showed him what intensity looks like, something RB had none of. Warner came on and about doubled RB's disposal count in half the game time RB had, all the while he was standing around in the open field being a complete spectator, miles behind his opponents, fumbling ground balls. I repeat that I rate him as a player but if he is in our midfield rd 1 then we're in big trouble.Comment

Your truly on a one man mission to deride him into becoming a footnote in history, aren't you?
I thought it was scrappy, sloppy just like any pre-season game in challenging conditions for footy. There were some really good signs around the park, and a good first hitout. Liked what I saw from Mills through the midfield, and looking forward to Blakey building into his role over the year. A few looked very very rusty - Reid in particular, but all in all, a bit to go by and build on for next week. Some of the young guys did some good stuff too looking forward to the season overall.Last edited by mcs; 27 February 2021, 01:05 PM."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

Over-rated. Unfair that champions like Franklin and Joey can be doubted, kids who never give up like Bell can be derided, but the golden child is spared criticism because of what ? Past performance ? Yeah the kids been good so far in his career but nowhere near good enough to excuse entire halves of footy where you only touch it about three times when you're playing for a spot in the 22. There's a team that players who put in performances like that end up and its called the ressies !!Comment
