I have correctly wished for the 21 of the 22 players now selected in post #7 of this thread on 9th of March. (I selected Sinclair and not McDonald) Very excited!! Dare to dream!

I think we are being a bit harsh on Melican. Granted that he's inconsistent and has had some stretches of poor games, but he's pretty good when he's in form. He's on a new 3 year contract, so he's going to be around for a while. He'll work on his weak points in the reserves and be the better for it.

That being said, it's great to see McLean developing into someone we think can hold down a key position. I'm hoping that we don't pull off a position swap with Reid, although that's always a possibility if it doesn't look to be working out.

I've noticed in Longmire pressies the emphasis placed on talking a longer view on the season. I don't think there's a big expectation of victory against Brisbane, so why not play the draftees and try out McLean in a defense where we could use some depth with the loss of Aliir.

Looking forward to hearing the official explanation of the McLean inclusion.

I'm quite pleased with the team selection this week, especially putting Wicks and Warner ahead of Hayward. That would have been a tough call for Longmire.

Good on them for selecting on form re Warner v Hayward. A nice reward for him, and message to players no one is guaranteed a game.

Re Melican, I’ll be interested to see if it is form or injury. The issue with Melican can be the gap between his best and worst is very wide. His best can be very good. His worst, whew.

I assume Rampe and McCartin will be tasked with Daniher and Hipwood. I’m torn between McLean playing down back, where he’s not played much, and swinging Reid back and having two inexperienced players in McLean and McDonald forwards.

But good on him. He looks like a bloke who is desperate to succeed, competitive and has some good assets to work with.

Good to see all of Wicks, Campbell, Gulden, Warner and Rowbottom selected in the same team - despite it being suggested that couldn't possibly happen.

I like the team - although think Reid/McLean will swap positions as others have suggested. Hayward hopefully will see this as the kick up the butt he may well need. He is a player that needs to produce more at the point he is beginning to get to in his career.

Our first ever sub was a former West Coast ruckman. I just wonder if history might repeat itself tomorrow. Cmon down Sinkers!

If Hayward is the sub then he is still in the team but hanging on by a fingernail.

Did we figure out if being an injury sub counts towards your total game tally? I imagine it doesn't unless you've been activated

Still counts as a game regardless whether the sub is activated or not. They also receive match payment regardless (which is paid outside of the cap). This has miffed most footy scribes that game can be counted for a player who may not get game time.....including GF & premiership medal.

I hope none of those officiated us against GW$, they were dreadful!

That's a young side but it's exciting, some real talent starting to build

These people are not very knowledgeable about football history. 19th and 20th players often did not take the ground in past decades but these were still counted as games.
