Stephens (no. 5 pick) missed 2 weeks of training due to concussion, but named as emergency. McInereney had delayed start due to December surgery. Brand had delayed contact training due to shoulder reco, but is back in full training now.Comment

Insulting nonetheless. One of the great warriors in our clubs history. Not just of his era. Deserves better than to be named on the bench while the follower spots go to an unproven player and a small forward.
I am expecting Mclean to play forward and Reid to go back. Both disasters. Reid is a serviceable fwd. That is better than anything else we have right now. McLean is like a tonka truck, last game was nowhere near the level when he played forward. No idea what Longmire is thinking.
Just don't bother watching tonight. You've already decided the result anyway and all we will hear is everything is stuffed and we will never win anything ever again."You get the feeling that like Monty Python's Black Knight, the Swans would regard amputation as merely a flesh wound."Comment

Its here!! The time is here! Round 1. Best time of the year i reckon. Everyone is filled with hope and faith in our prospects this year. So exciting. This group will be the ones that deliver on that hope. Not this year i dont think. But in the near future they will. It begins tonight. This is the team that will do it. Missing are Hayward, Stephens, McInerney and Melican. Apart from that this is our first preview into our next great Swans side!
Looking forward to seeing Errol the little goal sneak, Wicks the tackling machine, Rowbottom crashing through, Isaac flying for marks, Ollie skipping tackles, the LIZARD jetting down the wing, McLean bashing some sorry Lions up!!Comment

What the?! The kids going to be a gun.....did you not watch last season?Comment

I think he'll be a good player, I'm just saying I dont think atm he's best 22. But this is something to balance with getting games into young playersComment

I'm with you. Who would people leave out of the current side to put Stephens in. Allowing for the fact Buddy and McInerney are also not in the selected side. (Or Naismith, but he's not really competing for a spot with Naismith. Nor I guess with Buddy, though there are lots of ways to structure a team and include Buddy.)Comment

Either way, it's not obvious that Stephens would come in for one of those, if he were fully fit. And I think McInerney ended last season with maybe half a nose in front of Stephens. We'll have to see how they go on with things.
The reality is that we will get injuries, and these players will all get their chances to show what they've got.Comment

Stephens already going to be of more value in 2021 due to his elite endurance.
If Blakey is one winger, who is the other one?Comment

I've spent a long time off the forums but am happy to be back with an exciting year ahead. We've been smashed with injuries for a few years so it is pleasing to start 2021 with only a few concerns.
I'm really looking forward to seeing the quicker, more direct play continue especially with the new man on the mark rule. I actually think Stephens and McInerney will thrive in this style of play when they are match fit. I do agree, though, that there are limited spot available but I suspect that there may be some rotation of the young blokes (and may be even some of the older ones).
The biggest concern is with the second tall back. McCartin will be pushing for AA in the next year or two but he will need some help and so it is a worry that Melican just can't hold form. It's also a shame that Will Gould hasn't quite developed but I still hold out hope.
For tonight, Brisbane are a really good side and so I'm not expecting a win. However, It wouldn't surprise if we gave them a scare at some point. Cheer cheer.Comment
