Personally, I can live with the innocent misspelling of names, it's the deliberate ones that annoy me. So Hewitt instead of Hewett, Clark instead of Clarke, and McClean instead of McLean are all better than Nainsmith for mine.

I have a feeling that the big bad unsociable Tigers are going to make our young cygnets earn it today. I hope our senior players are ready to fly the flag. Cracking day in Melbourne. I hope this game is one to be remembered.

        G'day Liz,

a couple other comments re Blakey and it relates to "Murmuration Awarness" but ill come back to that.

When playing sport we all know there are so many layers that can influence the performance of a player and or players.

Structure, flexibility of game plans, who in, who is out, who is in the other team and who is not, injuries, partial injuries, underdone because managed during the week etc etc.......

I suspect no one would have expected Wicks, Gulden, McDonald, Warner, Campbell etc etc to play at the level they did first two games. There would have been hope and possibilities, but no one would have known for sure.

So these 18yr olds became the hot hand, they became go to players and focal points and our players adapted to what was before them and used their abilities to optimise movements and outcomes. The Navy seals and elite sports coaching call this "Murmuration". I loved how our coaches gave the licence to go forward and attack, attack, attack and allowed our players to embrace the "zone of orientation".

Because we moved the ball so quickly, efficiently and effectively the first two games and most goals stuck which was incredible accuracy and score board pressure........some players just supported the "hot hand" the "in the zone" players which then made players Blakey probably look like a modest support role.

        Murmuration:
"Large, coordinated school of fish, moving and shimmering in unison, are mesmerising to behold: hundreds or thousands of individuals, moving together as if under radio control, performing movements both simple and complicated. Schools turn, contract, expand, even part and come back together all without missing a beat"

Each fish maintains a “zone of repulsion” with its neighbors where a fish automatically turns away from a neighbor in order to avoid collision. Outside that zone is the “zone of orientation” where each fish attempts to match its neighbors. When a school is moving together in a line, orienting to match neighbors is the dominant action. When a school is stationary, maintaining close distance between individuals is a greater priority.

Florent's attributes are more obviously suited to Florent's role than are Stephens's - at least at the moment. He might have ambitions to become an inside mid (inside/outside if he takes Parker's advice) but I've seen little to suggest he's there yet.

Stephens will get his chance, maybe as soon as next weekend. I reckon he's a good shot to spend Saturday night having a one-on-one tutorial next to Longmire on the bench.

PS I generally try to bite my tongue on grammar and spelling matters. I know they might just be typos. But there have been some repeats that are getting on my nerves.

          It's Stephens. Not Stephen's.
          And Hayward. Not Heyward.

Someone explain to me how Wicks gets a game over Stephen’s (boy of boy, goodness gracious me).
Give me a break. Hopefully this was an April fools post.

But if you want an explanation, here are 3 reasons:

            1. Wicks and Stephens play a totally different position.

            2. Wicks has been fantastic this year.

3 Stephens had an interrupted pre season

Today will be the true test of where we are. Both Lions and Crows could not maintain the pressure for long enough to impact on our new high speed / high skill style. When they did increase the pressure, our intensity and scoring dropped off.

Tigers will bring the pressure from the first bounce to the last kick so it will be interesting to see if we can execute under their sustained pressure..................

                and scoreboard pressure

we really nailed goals at key moments to respond early in the first two games.

Accuracy and conversion of points was very high standard when it counted in those two games............that goal by Bud against Adelaide when we were 6-19 in the first qtr was critical. Not many people can nail that one from 55 and it put us back in the fast lane

Wicks is not a concern atm.

We need to recruit a star KPD. You know melican isnt going great when i would rather go in one defender short than have Lewis 'turning circle' Melican back there.

Our mids could get on top. Nank isnt an elite tap ruck and Hickeys been unbelievable. Hope the midfield is Kennedy Parker Mills and Warner as that is our best midfield group going forward. I wouldnt bother relying on Florent, Blakey , Hewett etc until they prove they're actually any good.

Worried Logan mcdonald will get Balta and get destroyed. Oh well. This will be a learning experience for this young squad

Anyone who has problems spelling particular players' names should consider adding codes to their autocorrect that will spell the players' names automatically when used.

For example, \hw to Hayward, \st to Stephens.

Possibly today will be a bit like Eagles v. Swans at Subiaco in 2005; we lost by a healthy margin, but we learnt an awful lot that day...,.

Richmond are a very dirty team. Always have been Hopefully they don't cause any serious damage to any of the young guys and the umpires are on top of any cheap shots behind the play.

To win today, I think our small forwards will have to play very well. Not only arriving at the right time, when the ball hits the ground, but also to disrupt Richmond's rebound. Should be fun to watch.
