Let's Get LOUD aka the match day experience thread (split thread)

Probably all been on Married at First Sight by now. I'm not one to judge, everyone is different - but it was a serious what the @@@@ moment (and I'm only mid 30s so not that much older!)

It may be a matter of personal choice, or more specifically, having your personal choice disrespected. In that case, you and almost everybody else around you, chose to go to the football, because of an interest in football. However, those few people on their phones, were at the football, but weren't showing any interest in what was happening on the field. Which suggests that they thought there was something wrong, with everybody else's choice to watch the football. And that choice was further disrespected, by the loud anecdotes, where the person obviously thought that she was more worthy of attention, than what everyone else had paid good money to pay attention to.

And even though I haven't watched a single second of Married At First Sight, the ads that I've seen, are enough to suggest that they wouldn't be out of place.

From the replies people are receiving the club is determined to go ahead with this (possibly with some turn down in volume level).

Perhaps we should go to SCG next week prepared with large signs to hold up saying ‘Turn off the music’ ‘We’re here for the footy ‘ etc. Or ruder versions of same messages.

Hopefully would get picked up by TV cameras. Might cause at least some internal discussion within the club.

Do it - if there are signs at various parts of the ground, the cameras will see it, it will start a conversation - someone even emailing fox or channel 7 (whoever is to televise”) as a type of tip off might work.

I have no issue with people doing whatever they want in their life - that is their choice. Not mine to judge. But I just don't get going to the footy and telling all your mates about it in a location where probably about 100 others got to learn about it at all. Between that and zero actual interest in the footy - was a strange day that day.

Not that it is particularly unusual to at least run into some that seem to be at the footy just to be 'seen' at the footy. But hey - it is what it is.

But yeh, its definitely my strangest anecdote from the football over the years!

I noticed that too, the volume in Adelaide was appalling. With the music after goals in the Magpies/Lions game, I’m pretty sure it’s an AFL-driven thing. They certainly didn’t learn last year that the crowd is a major part of the atmosphere.
Anyway, the couch is looking mighty inviting for future games; you can even turn down the frequently-execrable commentary!

Today was a perfect example of how a crowd will respond when the team plays well. The long Sydney chant was loud and clear on several occasions in that second half - no need for creating atmosphere. The fans will respond when its needed, and the SCG will be rockin' if we keep playing like this - will be standing room only!

Just spent 10 minutes doing an @AFL “fan experience survey” simply so I could say please don’t play any music at any time of the game.
No one is there for the music. No one ever left the ground having hated the game but loving the ‘entertainment’.
Get rid of it. All of it.

Well, some people would have digital copies of this form letter, to show to the staff.

The levels of these speakers are set prior to the crowd arriving and are tested thoroughly. If you notice that they are too loud, please alert the closest Customer Service representative in your seating area and we can then adjust the sound levels in real time from the Stadium Control Room.
We’re playing music after goals to add to the celebration of members and fans in the venue. We’ve worked to select songs which suit each player individually so we can add to the atmosphere – our aim is to turn the SCG into our home fortress and give our players an extra edge when in front of the home crowd.
We’ll continue to collect feedback through the next few weeks and if we can get the speaker volumes to be more spectator friendly, we hope the music can add to the experience for the majority.
