I wish they read Psychology books of the importance of being just and fair in your decision making!

Yes, if we're going to mix psychology and umpiring, can I just say that I was a touch disappointed with Ray Chamberlain's costume at yesterday's Big Freeze. I mean, dressing up as a flamboyant Elton John, hints that he sees himself as an entertainer and prefers to be the centre of attention. Which I don't really think is a good thing for an umpire.

Personally, I think that this costume would've been much more appropriate.

At least it would have shown some measure of self awareness. And after Friday night's performance, it may have gone part of the way, to getting back in the good books with us Swans fans?

        Oh my.
        I'm STILL very angry.
Walked out 10 minutes into the last after one too many #freekickhawthorn's for my liking.

Seriously, it seemed like there were 50 poos and wees on the field against five of us.
Do we really need to go back to basics... again?
Manning up is obviously a thing of the past.
Once again, when we had the ball, the poos and wees were right on top of us... when they had the ball, they had free reign.
We can't control the umpires (razor ray is an arse) - we can control our reaction to said bad umpiring.
        Undisciplined. To say the least.
Wild speculation, unsubstantiated rumours, silly jokes and opposition delight in another's failures is what makes an internet forum fun.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones who let in the light.

I’m with you Annie. Forgot to man up, in fact forgot everything! Was it mental and/ or physical tiredness? Just an awful performance by the whole team. Hope this was a one- off as we have 3 tough matches coming up against much better teams and it starts at selection- we simply must get this right!

Two-thirds of all points usually come from turnovers in AFL. we did not capitalise on the turnovers at all

but equally the dump kick to the side of the goals was genius by hawthorn first two qtrs

we couldnt get out with any potency and or scoreboard hurt and this inhibited our ability to break free from turnovers

they schooled us on the park and in the coaching dept

will be fascinating how we respond to these tactics

we didnt have that dominant back man coming over the top to spoil and hit out to the boundary and re set to go again

I haven't posted on this site for a while but I read it regularly. I watched the Ch7 coverage. Our team was coming off 2 x 6 day breaks and Hawks were coming off a bye - and it really showed. Our guys looked sluggish and slow, and always a step behind the hawks players. Like others have said the umpiring was appalling. There were times during the game where we looked like getting some momentum but it got snuffed out by a well placed free kick to #freekickHawthorn. It looked like they just gave up as the game went on.
Usually, even if it's obvious we're going to lose I watch the game to the end; out of respect to our team and club. But not this game; I turned it off in Q4.
No-one likes losing but if you get screwed over by the umpires as well it's pretty hard to take.
As the saying goes "the behaviour you walk past is the behaviour you accept" When will the club take this up with the AFL? We're on the wrong end of the 50/50 calls far too often but it's the number of non-calls that's really the problem.

When Bell was taken front on in the 3rd quarter directly in front, a goal would have put us 12 points down. We played poorly but we had some momentum when that incident occurred so who knows if it might have ignited us. Not sure who the ump was but it was a shocker. One of quite a few.

I was shocked when Bell did not receive a free kick but more shocked he did not receive a serious injury. He got hammered by a much bigger guy who had zero eyes for the ball and just wanted to hurt him. Not only is poor umpiring bad for a spectacle ,it is very dangerous when one team can do as they please without consequences.

Exactly.....also not good for the future of the game as it doesn't impress the parents of potential future AFL players either.

I was very proud of my favourite player, sam wicks. For the second week he ran the furthest. Despite being the only young player who has not yet had a break he absolutely cracked in with 9 contested possessions. Didn’t stop trying all day despite, heeney, papley and buddy deciding not to show up. The umpires did wicks absolutely no favours, yet he never gave up. Ended up suspended for a week for a stupid act of frustration, but the kid has real character. When he got flattened after marking the ball, he didn’t roll around on the ground like a flog. Give him a year or two and those shots he is pinging at goal will go through. I also think he will move into the midfield at age 23 and rip it up.

Barra, hope you are right. What a bonus that would be!

                          Great post!

You know that I'm a big fan of Sam Wicks as well. With all the big up and coming stars I said that Sam was the surprise package of the year so far. I've had to push back on a lot of posters who don't appreciate his contribution and how hard he works.

I also agree that he will be very capable of playing in the middle. He was great in the NEAFL when he played there. A tackling machine who can win his own ball.

I was surprised when we drafted him over some others. I didn't appreciate at the time just how good he could be. He's showing it this year.

I like Wicks, but I fear his ceiling might be a bit lower then you hope. Even to have got as far as he had so far has been a really impressive effort. I hope he comes back refreshed from the bye + his little holiday refreshed and good to go - although wouldn't suprise me if he finds himself in ressies for a couple of weeks or so, depending on how we got against Port Whinealot.

Very happy (unlike some others on here ) to be very proven very wrong about my gut feeling however!

Considering the dregs we have given contracts to in recent times we'd be silly not to give one to Wicks , he will always be a fringe player imo as he doesnt have much going for him besides his pressure game but you still need fringe players to make a premiership list and hes been decent this yr

Mclean too but i think amartey has overtaken him

Your language is derogatory TB and unnecessary. You can make the points you wish to make and still be respectful to our players. Every guy pulling on the Red and White shirt tries his best- sure, some may not prove good enough but don’t insult any of our players please.
